INTEGRATION OF PSYCHOLOGY AND THEOLOGY

Rosemead' s curriculum includes a series of seminars designed to investigate the mutual relationships between theological and psychological concepts. These semi­ nars constitute an essential distinctive of Rosemead and offer students an opportun­ ity to become involved in a creative application of shared insights from these re­ lated disciplines. PTI 501 INTEGRATION COLLOQUIUM (0) A colloquium introducing first year students to issues and approaches to the integra­ tion of psychology and theology. Noncredit. PTI 502 A SURVEY OF PSYCHOLOGICAUTHEOLOGICAL INTEGRATION (3) Both the theoretical and empirical approaches to the integration of psychology and theology are surveyed in this course. Includes discussion of the various models of integration together with an examination of the research relevant to basic issues in integration. For M.A. students only. PTI 610 THE DEVELOPMENT OF RELIGIOUS UNDERSTANDING IN CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS (2) An assessment of the cognitive and affective meanings which children and adoles­ cents attribute to religious concepts, practices, and experiences, and their changes in meaning during the course of individual development. The biblical perspective of religious development will be examined. Elective. PTI 611 RESEARCH IN RELIGIOUS BEHAVIOR (2) A survey of the research literature on religious behavior. Representative empirical studies dealing with several dimensions and correlates of religious behavior will be examined. May also be taken for psychology credit (see PSY 611). PTI 701 THE NATURE AND SCOPE OF INTEGRATION (3) The course includes a discussion of the models, levels, and areas in which integra­ tion of the theological and psychological can occur as well as a framework for con­ ceptualizing the scope of integration in its entirety. Prerequisites: One theology course and second year standing. PTI 702 SYSTEMS OF INTEGRATION (2) A critical evaluation of the works of specific theologians and psychologists who have attempted to integrate the disciplines of psychology and theology. Theorists studied include Adams, Browning, Gothard, Hodge, Mowrer, Tournier, Van Kaam, and Wagner.
