Long before her designs became synonymous with royalty, Hollywood icons, and discerning collectors around the world, Marks was a young married woman from South Africa pursuing opportunity in America. Through her husband’s distinguished medical career, including his professorship at the University of Miami, the couple enjoyed opportunities that would ultimately shape the course of Lana’s future, including an invitation aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia. Excited for the occasion, Marks set out to find a red or purple American alligator handbag to complement her attire. After searching luxury boutiques, she came up empty handed. Rather than settling for less, she recognized a gap in the marketplace, a revelation that became the foundation of an internationally celebrated luxury brand. What began as a memorable social occasion would unknowingly spark the inspiration for one of the world’s most recognizable luxury handbag brands. Determined to create handbags unlike anything available at the time, Marks immersed herself in design and craftsmanship. Her entrepreneurial journey eventually led her to develop and open a flagship in New York’s famed Madison Ave., where she built the business and gained invaluable experience navigating one of the world’s most competitive markets. “If you can survive New York, you can succeed anywhere,” she reflected. Years before, she introduced her first collection, a small group of five handbag designs showcased at a Saks Fifth Avenue presentation in Palm Beach. The response was immediate. The collection generated more than $33,000, in sales in two days, marking the beginning of a remarkable
journey and confirming that her vision had found an audience. Today, Marks is refocusing her brand on the pinnacle of exclusivity. Her current collection centers on highly sought after clutches, tophandles, totes and evening handbags with Precious Gemstones only available through her Palm Beach location. Among her most celebrated designs are the Princess Diana handbag and the iconic Cleopatra Clutch, both customizable creations that have become coveted collector’s pieces.
