Ely’s Historic State Theater was built in 1936 by the Swanson family of Ely. It was a beloved community hub for many years, closing and falling into disrepair in 2008. Alley A Realty took on the daunting task of renovating the theater to its original glory in 2014, a project that took more than five years, a lot of hard work, and local support. The theater reopened in 2019, facing the uncertainty of pandemic closures shortly thereafter.
The theater is once again a vibrant community hub, a gathering space for all things arts and culture. As we look to the future, our goal is to finish renovating the “Third Space” lounge. This space will host live music, screenings, workshops, and both public and private events.
