BACKGROUND INFORMATION

A 10 years old refinery, which was already implementing the risk-based inspection program and was following the inspection practices, was facing corrosion damage issues in their refining units. Therefore, seeing the current issues faced by the refinery client initiated a study to enhance their corrosion and inspection management programs with the following objectives. a. To review and to analyze current refinery corrosion & inspection management program and to identify gaps compared with international codes & standards or best engineering practices and to draft recommendations for filling the gaps. b. To develop the corrosion control document based on the API-970 guidelines with details on how each potential damage mechanism is prevented, detected, controlled, monitored, or otherwise managed

EXTRA BENEFIT TO CLIENT

The critical advantageous impact and benefit for the refinery was as follows: Identification of Critical Corrosion Circuits to concentrate on corrosion monitoring and control. Making the RBI system and inspection practices more reliable in predicting Damage Mechanisms and avoiding the failures. Availability of IOWs for refining units, which can be monitored and enforced to manage corrosion.
