Initially, this residence possessed a kitchen that was both small and outdated, which the delightful family of five discovered did not meet their functional needs. The solution to this problem would not just be a kitchen remodel, but a 400 sqft addition which would be the new location for this beautiful custom kitchen and mudroom. The first goal would be to ensure that this addition, both from the interior and exterior elevations, looked as though it had always been there! Seamlessly blending new and old construction so that it feels cohesive is something that we’re passionate about. One of the ways that we would do that would be by curating and selecting materials and finishes that boasted of old-world charm like those of the original structure. We chose a bold black for the perimeter cabinets but paired them with unlacquered brass hardware that can naturally age and patinate with time. We also designed the custom red oak island
so that if felt more like a piece of furniture, something that is very

The use of contrasting materials—painted perimeter cabinets versus the stained wood island, dark versus light quartz countertops— along with integrated appliances, and mixing cabinet knobs with bin pulls all works together to contribute to this layered and curated kitchen design. The new vaulted ceiling in here was just begging for millwork so we cladded it with ship-lap for added visual interest and character.
