Very supportive.” Behind the scenes, the local drag queen scene fosters a strong sense of camaraderie and support among its members. Performers uplift and encourage one another, offering guidance, friendship, and solidarity in a world that often marginalizes those who dare to be different. It’s a tight-knit community where bonds are forged not only through shared experiences but also through a mutual love for the art form of drag. “I have been a fan of drag since I was 11-years-old after watching season four of RuPaul’s Drag Race ,” said Vera Getty. “It wasn’t until I turned 18 and met drag performers in Halifax that I decided to become a performer myself in 2018.” Moreover, the local drag queen scene plays a vital role in promoting acceptance and understanding within the broader community. Through their performances and activism, drag queens raise awareness about
important social issues, including LGBTQ+ rights, gender equality, and diversity. They use their platform to spark meaningful conversations and advocate for positive change, inspiring others to embrace tolerance and compassion. Nauseeah, a guest performer, explains how she stepped into the world of drag, “It wasn’t really something I was inspired to do, it just kind of happened.” She says: “I have a unique relationship with drag as a trans woman. At first drag was just playing with a pretty lipstick, to heal the woman within. Eventually drag developed into something much more - an outlet for my artistic ventures and personal interests, not just a way to celebrate my womanhood in the most unapologetic way possible.” The impact of the local drag queen scene extends far beyond the confines of the stage. Haus of Zhoosh takes pride in being an integral part of the community, “While we love performing as artists, we are so thankful to give back to the community with every
