2015 George Olasin award given to Craig Black, SRA

he George Olasin award is given to a member of the Southern New Jersey Chapter of the Appraisal Institute who has given years of dedi- cated service to the chapter and exhibited a high standard of ethics and professionalism in their appraisal practice. This award is named after George Olasin, 1962 Chapter President, who passed away in February 2011. The George Olasin award for 2015 is being awarded to Craig Black , SRA . This prestigious honor will be recognized at the next chapter meeting: February 4th at Terra Nova in Sewell. Craig is a graduate of Saint Joseph’s University, he has a BS in Food Marketing and following graduation, he worked for Frito Lay, Lever Broth- ers and RJ Reynolds. In 1985 he joined his father’s company Todd and Black, Inc – real estate appraisers and consultants. The company’s focus was mainly commercial/ industrial valuation and the majority of the work was litigation oriented. In 1997, he was hired by Campbell Soup to manage real estate for a spin-off company – Vlasic Foods International – which included such brands as Vlasic Pickles, Swanson Frozen Dinners and Vlasic Mushroom Farms. He oversaw real estate both domestic and international handling proper- ties throughout the United States and internationally in Canada, United Kingdom, Germany and Argentina. He coordinated the $7 million fit-out of the World Headquarters in Cherry Hill. He was also responsible for facility management, all non-ingredient purchases, asset recovery, physical damage insurance claims and eventually the purchase of all dairy and pasta products. He returned to Todd and Black in 2001 and held the title of President until it was closed in 2013. He had been the tax assessor in the Borough of Clayton from 2005 to 2008 and in 2013 he took a position with the new county wide assessing pilot program in Gloucester County as the Deputy County Assessor responsible for commercial and industrial valuation of all properties in the 24 municipalities in Gloucester County. He earned the SRA designation in 1989 and is a Certified Tax Assessor (CTA) and State Certified General Real Estate Appraiser. He has been on the SNJAI Board of Directors from 1990–1998, 2002-2005, 2007-2009 and in 2012. He served as Treasurer in 1994, Second Vice Presi- dent in 1995, First Vice President in1996, President in 1997, Vice-President in 2010 and President in 2011. He has been married for 30 years to his wife Lisa and they have three children: Caitlin (James Madison University), Ryan (College of Charleston) and Tara (who will graduate from Dickinson College in May).
