A GRAND SENSES EXPERIENCE AWAITS YOU

Words by Patricia Foster Photos: Evan Ceretti Photography

It’s a spa, salon, and boutique, but it’s also so much more. Located in the luxurious Holman Grand Hotel in downtown Charlottetown, Grand Senses is a quiet retreat from the chaos of a busy life. It’s a place for brides to be pampered and energized for their special day; a place where all guests can be welcomed to a soothing experience that will delight their five senses. Virginia MacIsaac, the general manager of Grand Senses, stresses client experience above all else. “There are always opportunities to be better,” she says, which is why her staff undergoes constant training. “As a destination spa, we have a responsibility to stay above the rest.”

With clean, modern decor in a palette of gentle creams and turquoise blues, the two-level spa is wheelchair-accessible and equipped with eight hairstyling stations, five spa therapy rooms, two mani-pedi rooms, and four Aqua Therapy Massage Beds imported from Europe. The boutique only stocks botanically- based Aveda products, including the ever-popular Shampure Dry Shampoo & Conditioner, as well the Botanical Kinetics Intense Hydrating Mask. With Aveda, says MacIsaac, customers can have confidence in the quality and integrity of their products; the bottles are biodegradable, the ingredients are fair-trade, and nothing is tested on animals. “Our mission is to care for the world we live in.” For bridal parties and bachelorettes, the private room across the hall from Grand Senses allows for a more boisterous, intimate atmosphere. “We’ll cater for you,” says MacIsaac. Guests can have a more social atmosphere while receiving manicures and pedicures. One of the spa’s highlights is its ability to cater to the whole bridal party in a holistic way. For a wedding, Grand Senses’s bridal team can even drive up to their client’s hotel or Airbnb. Nails, eyelash extensions, therapeutic massages to deal with

stress; they do it all. “We’ll make sure you get that picture-perfect hair,” adds MacIsaac.

Grand Senses has hosted bridal parties from locations as varied as Florida, California, and Australia. Their core bridal team is composed of four specialists: Brooke Sanderson, the lead, as well as Lorren Assyag, Maryam Kalhor, and Katrina Wilcox. All the ladies have trained with renowned hairstylists and makeup artists, including Janell Geason, Aveda’s Global Artistic Director for Makeup. MacIsaac praises her team’s respect for their clientele and their commitment to quality service. “We’re not perfect, but we’re always quick to rectify our mistakes.” With everything from aromatic skin treatments that hydrate and detoxify your body, to hair-colouring and stylish updos, Grand Senses is a place that’ll leave you feeling inspired and fabulous, no matter how hectic your schedule becomes. It’s a place to close your eyes, breathe in the sweet floral aroma of Shampure candles, and relax into a therapeutic massage or an infrared sauna. It’s the perfect end to a busy week, or the perfect start to a new chapter of life.
