to extend the run twice, adding an additional two weeks of performances, which also sold out in record time. “I feel so grateful to our audiences for this incredible response. I could never have predicted this after this past year.” This summer also marked the launch of the Ally Program, a collaboration between The Guild and Pride PEI where free tickets are made available to youth and young adults from the LGBTQ+ community and other high-risk or marginalized communities. “Thanks to this program, over 50 Islanders who otherwise might not have access to live performances had the opportunity to experience the magic of theatre,” says Brown. “The Guild was also fortunate to partner with Pride PEI during their 2021 festival,
hosting a special Pride performance of Pleasureville , along with two sold- out drag shows, showcasing some of the most exciting drag performers in Atlantic Canada.” It was a busy summer for The Guild. Running alongside the Mainstage Series was the Celebration Series which celebrated and showcased PEI and Atlantic Canadian artists in special limited engagements and one-night- only performances. Series highlights included Ava & Lily, Shane Pendergast, Vince the Messenger, Oshun Dance, and an interactive weekly performance by the Mi’kmaq Heritage Actors. In addition, there was also the Children's Series, helmed by the artistic director of Children’s Programming Lori Linkletter, which featured fully-staged children's musicals, and a Kids’ Ceilidh,
“With over 200 performances in under three months, this year’s summer festival ensured that The Guild was abuzz seven days a week as a lively cultural hub where community happens,” says Jankov. As for what’s next: stay tuned, says Brown. “We look forward to announcing our 2022 summer festival lineup this November.”
