For Flory, much of what she does revolves around education and giving children a passion for farming and what goes into it. “Kids may love to play with the animals, but they're also amazed to learn all about what the animals can do. I have kids come who have no idea eggs come from chickens,” she said. “I talk about farm-to-fork, and the work that goes into Island Hill Farm. Kids get to see where their food comes from, and that's very important to me.” The farm has grown to include 240 animals, and over 100 of them are goats. They typically welcome 30,000 visitors a year. There is a seasonal staff of 14-16 people, and in the winter, there is a staff of three full-timers, including Baker Joe, social media rockstar and

mentor Angie, and her assistant Stephanie. Then there is Sandra, who makes soap, and Markus, who deals with animals and livestock. Flory couldn't do what she does without her staff, and credits them with allowing her to feel secure enough to be creative. “They're just exceptional, and like an extension of my arms. I'm a serial entrepreneur, and the amazing work they do allows me to feel comfortable enough to try other things,” she said. “I work hard—and having these amazing people makes it easier. I'm constantly trying to find new ways to innovate, and the support is incredible.”
