Q: What knowledge do homeowners need to heat/cool their homes?

Q: What’s changed about home heating/ cooling recently?

A: Homeowners should know that there are lots of heating/cooling systems; most run on electricity and heat pump technology. Grants and rebates are available to help people switch to those.

A: If you built a home ten years ago, you might not even have heard of a heat pump; now, they’re everywhere! Forced air or boiler systems are less economical—and require more maintenance—than modern heat pump systems. Efficiency PEI offers incentives for certain systems, if you’d like to make the switch!

Q: What are your clients’ most common needs?

A: Air conditioning and ventilation. Summer’s hot and humid—AC is a must! Humidity can cause mildew, but a good ventilation system brings in fresh air, letting your home “breathe.”

Q: How should homeowners prep their heating system for winter?

A: Many systems have filters. It’s important to keep those clean and in good condition, or they can restrict air flow. If you aren’t sure whether your system has filters, contact your installer. Also, have a qualified service team clean your furnaces, chimneys, and vents. That’ll help avoid potential breakdowns when your heating equipment gets a workout in low temperatures!

Q: What heating/cooling systems do Beck’s and/or PEI residents prefer?

A: The most popular system in local new builds is a central air-to-air ducted heat pump system that heats and cools your entire home. It’s economical, and the temperature is Wi-Fi controlled. A hybrid hot water heating system is also available; with that unit, the estimated
