The holiday season is the perfect time to gift your loved one, or yourself, a lovely floral arrangement. Alan Preston of Charlottetown’s Hearts & Flowers knows there’s nothing like a touch of seasonal greenery to add to the magic around this time of year.

“C hristmas is our most joyous season,” he says. “Decorating with natural fragrant greenery each season allows us to discover new designs and wonderful ways to help our customers express their love and caring for family and friends.” This year’s holiday offerings include “natural bounty” baskets filled with balsam fir, pine, and some local holly to accent long lasting Star of Bethlehem blooms, fragrant roses, and snowcap chrysanthemums. Additional pinecones and birch branches provide

an earthy texture to the bouquet. Beach lovers might enjoy a Christmas

that develop as the flowers ripen and bloom out, which means the vase arrangement will change every day. “We select flowers that will bloom over a week.” In addition to the new seasonal arrangements, Preston says the store will be initiating and promoting a reuse policy starting in the fall by encouraging everyone to bring in their extra vases to be reused. “For every vase that we can use, we will donate $1.00 to either Hospice PEI, the PEI Humane Society, or the Appin Road Day Camp.
