K illam Apartment REIT announced back in 2019 Mall, and in June 2021, Killam and Pan American Properties purchased the remaining 50 per cent of the property and assumed property management responsibility. Tracey Barrett, Commercial Property Manager for the Centre, confirmed that the complex will now be known as Royalty Crossing, derived from “its unique location where two prominent Charlottetown communities cross and join—West and East Royalty.” that it bought a 50 per cent interest in the Charlottetown With the new changes, Royalty Crossing is currently in discussions with a diverse mix of hospitality and retail tenants, says Barrett, all of whom are “thrilled” about Royalty Crossing's potential and the revitalization that will take place over the coming years. “Islanders have always supported the Charlottetown Mall yet are ready to find new and unique retail and experience amenities. In addition, we have approached a number of local fashion retailers and food vendors to become part of the new retail and food experience at the Centre.” Barrett says an announcement about new tenants will be made later this year. The mall will also be undergoing a face- lift, including expanding and renovating the food court by adding more food service options and an improved seating area, and adding more natural light with ample windows “to create more attractive areas within the Food Hall to meet with friends, colleagues, and family.” Additionally, there will be an expansion added to the current washroom space near where Pseudio is located. The renovation will allow for more stalls for women’s, men’s, and neutral washrooms to improve the comfort and convenience for our customers. The upgrades were much needed, says Barrett, adding that the various improvement projects will begin as

early as this fall. “We want to ensure everyone’s shopping experience is an enjoyable one. This renovation is a top priority for our Centre,” says Barrett. There is also a renewed interest in commerce, with a plan for newly added office space located in the southeast

corner of the Centre, near the wing where the current fitness centre and food court are located. Additional office space is being developed on the second level above the Dollarama just off University Ave. The Royalty Crossing site will attract many businesses looking to offer employees added conveniences and features, says Barrett, like being in close proximity to residential, hospitality, grocery, restaurant, food hall, pharmacy, banking and fitness facilities, and being accessible by both public transit and the Confederation Trail. “Office employees will also be excited about the ample free parking!” While change is always hard to accept at first, Barrett says the Royalty Crossing transformation will allow it to become a regional hub where people can shop locally for fashion trends and value. “As the Centre takes shape and progresses further, Islanders will
