GOING WITH THE GRAIN

McAskill Woodworking has been in business for over seventy years. During that time, the business has changed, but the commitment to quality has stayed the same. “My father started the business in 1947,” says owner Joe McAskill. “At that time, he was mainly making windows, doors and church furniture for the post war baby boom of the 50s and 60s.” They had a furniture repair and finishing side during this time as well. “When I joined the business in 1978, we decided to expand the furniture building,” says McAskill. “One constant in our business has been our commitment to quality. Most of our staff has been here for 30 to 42 years.” McAskill has been asked to create many memorable pieces over the years, but a favourite was a fairly recent build. “In 2015 Parks Canada, in collaboration
