He also loves baseball and golf.

Chris Gangaware has been with Barton /Barloworld /TAG Truck Center for 22 years after 15 years in the truck leasing busi- ness. Starting in the Service department moving to Customer support then to Sales where he currently supports the fleet ac- counts in Jackson, TN. A five-time Leland James recipient, Chris lives in Covington, TN with his wife Sara. They have 3 children and three granddaughters. Zack Smith has worked for TAG Truck Center as a truck salesman for five and half years. He started his career at the
Truck Centers. He worked in parts for several years, moving to truck sales in 1998. In 2011, TAG Truck Center purchased the dealership and Dean has continued to excel under the TAG banner. Over the past 20+ years in truck sales, Dean has developed a vast amount of knowledge of the industry as well as creating specs that meet the needs of his various custom- ers. Having done so, has developed a loyal customer follow- ing that looks to him for their continued trucking needs. Dean has enjoyed 19 years of marriage to his wife Chris. Together, they have 2 children, 15-year-old son, Payton and 16-year-old daughter, Julia.
Jason Wade has been with Lonestar Truck Group for 17 years. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems from the Uni- versity of Texas Arling- ton in 2000 but soon realized after two years in that field, he needed to find another path. Through an acquain-

Do you want to know how to calculate fuel costs for your fleet given the face value of fuel plus fuel economy? We’ve got a calculator for that!
Doing the Math Step 1 – Determine your fuel economy.
1. Multiply the amount of fuel used by 100. 2. Divide that number by the total miles driven. Here’s a real-life example. Thomas Built Buses Saf-T-Liner C2 1. 60 gallons of fuel used x 100 = 6,000 2. 6,000 / 705.8 miles driven = 8.5 miles per gallon fuel economy Step 2 – Calculate total fuel cost. 1. Take your total mileage per year and divide by your fuel economy to determine the num- ber of gallons of fuel needed per year. 2. Multiply the number of gallons needed per year by the total cost per gallon of fuel or DGE to get your approximate cost of fuel for the year. Here’s a real-life example using the same Thomas Built Buses Saf-T-Liner C2 1. 12,000 miles driven per year / 8.5 miles per gallon = 1,410 gallons of fuel needed per year 2. 1,410 gallons x $3.07 per gallon* = $4,328.70 *national average on 3/6/19 A diesel school bus that travels 8.5 miles per gallon will cost approximately $4,328.70 to fuel for the year. Driving style, weather and road conditions may affect these figures somewhat. Why Does this Matter?
F uel economy is one of the key misleading indicators when it comes to costing out a school bus, particularly those that are fueled by alternative fuels or gasoline. While gasoline costs per gallon typically are lower than those of clean-diesel, gasoline is less efficient compared to diesel. On average, a clean-diesel school bus can travel about 510 miles on a tank of diesel vs. only 270 miles on gasoline, based on the same standard-sized fuel tanks. Newer engines, like the Detroit™ DD5™ and DD8™ diesel engines, show an additional three percent increase in fuel efficiency. This difference in range and fuel economy quickly mitigates the cost difference between gasoline and diesel fuel.
Let’s look at that on paper.
As you can see, even though clean-diesel costs more than gasoline per gallon, it outperforms other fuel types in operating range and overall costs, based on how efficient the fuel is. Diesel always has been and remains the most fuel-efficient engine (due to more BTUs), provid- ing nearly 90 percent better fuel economy and a longer operating range than any other similar- sized gasoline, propane or compressed natural gas (CNG) engines. Plus, new technologies and innovations, like the Detroit DD5 engine can help you achieve even greater fuel economy and lower fuel costs down the road.
