A Message From Our Leadership
A year of development and growth.
Cristina Vetrano Chief Executive Officer
Board of Directors
2023 was a year of development and growth for our organization. We were thrilled to merge with RMHC Greater Houston-Galveston, a milestone that broadened our reach and strengthened our ability to support families and serve the community beyond the Texas Medical Center. This merger not only expanded our footprint but also welcomed new board members and staff, whose passion and commitment have invigorated our mission. Our new name is Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Houston. Our core programs - Ronald McDonald Houses and Family Lounges - continued to thrive. In 2023 we enhanced our JoyFULL Eats program to include even more meals and snacks. We also expanded by curating over 1,000 family activities, more social work support and increased educational resources. Thanks to the merger, the Care Mobile has extended our outreach to underserved communities throughout the Greater Houston area. I am deeply grateful for the trust and support we receive from our families, donors, and community partners. Your belief in our mission drives us to continually seek ways to enhance our services and impact. As you review the following pages, you will gain insight into the inner workings and achievements of this amazing organization. I eagerly anticipate the opportunities the coming year will bring and invite you to join me on this journey.

A transformational year.
Dan Connally President of the Board
Dan Connally, President Shane Kimzey, President-Elect Brett Treadwell, Treasurer Shannon Hayes, M.D., Secretary Executive Board
This organization has been close to my heart for as long as I can remember. I joined the Board in 2015 and served in prior roles before becoming Board Chair for the 2023 calendar year. 2023 was a transformational year for our organization. After over 40 years of operating as Ronald McDonald House Houston, we merged at the end of the year with Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Houston / Galveston to form Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Houston. This combination will help us serve more families and drive deeper engagement with the community. Thanks to your support, we exited 2023 in excellent shape. Through the merger, we welcomed new employees, new programs, and new Board members. Our staff and volunteers are talented and energized. Our leadership is organized and motivated. Our board is right-sized and engaged. Our financial condition is sound. More importantly, we are excited about the opportunities ahead, and we look forward to sharing our progress with you. I am so thankful to have had this opportunity, and I look forward to sharing RMHC with my wife and three young children. Lastly, a special thank you to the families we serve for allowing us to be part of your lives. We admire your courage and look forward to providing a home away from home and wrap around services.

Our Programs
RONALD MCDONALD HOUSES
Ronald McDonald House is more than a place to stay. The House creates a community where kids and families embrace life and healing with a sense of hope, courage and joy. We provide a support system that addresses the families’ emotional and practical needs. We have four locations in the Texas Medical Center: Holcombe House, Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital, MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital, and Texas Children’s Hospital.
“I tried to budget for a hotel, but it wasn’t going to work. I was thinking I would just sleep in the car, and I’d be at the hospital when she wakes up.” Dorita Jackson
LOUNGES & FAMILY ROOMS
Ronald McDonald Lounges are a place for families to regroup, rest and refuel any time of day or night. Lounges are “safe” areas where patients and families can enjoy moments of normality. Amenities include comfortable sofas, a kitchen/dining area with complimentary meals and snacks, a universal charging station, and more. These spaces are available for families whose children are receiving care at our partner institutions.
“RMH Lounges provided us with a place of reprieve when we needed a break from the alarms and chaos of the NICU.” Audrey Vespa
JOYFULL EATS
Providing accessible food and snacks to our families is a top priority, and our goal is to serve one hot meal each day. Our 15 hospital lounges are stocked with grab & go snacks and H-E-B Meal Simple selections. At Holcombe House, lunches and dinners are catered and served by our meal partners. Meals provide more than nourishment. - they are an opportunity for families to regroup and meet others on similar journeys.
“Having access to a hot meal in the middle of the night, after not having eaten all day because your child is not doing well, is a God-send for us.” Ezekiel

Operated in partnership with Texas Children’s Hospital, the Care Mobile provides sick and well-child visits as well as vaccinations to underserved communities in the Greater-Houston area. The Care Mobile is staffed by pediatricians, nurse practitioners, nurses and medical assistants from Texas Children’s Hospital.
“We referred a child with depression and suicidal ideation to Texas Children’s where she got the treatment she desperately needed. If her mother hadn’t brought her to the mobile clinic, who knows what might have happened.” Care Mobile Team Member
SOCIAL WORK
The John M. O’Quinn Foundation’s Family Support Services team (Masters-Level Social Worker and interns) connect with each family to navigate obstacles during their child’s health journey. Our Family Support Specialists engage community partnerships so we can bridge gaps in areas such as education, housing, emotional well-being, behavioral and therapeutic assistance and much more.
“We were supported with 360-degree care. Spiritually, mentally, financially. Not just for my son, but for everyone in my family.” Chelsi Scott
FAMILY ACTIVITIES
Memories and moments of togetherness are a crucial part of healing. Family activities are just one of the ways we do this. We provide a curated range of activities for families staying at our Ronald McDonald Houses. From Graduation, to Halloween parties and movie nights – our goal is to bring as many smiles and laughter to our families as possible. Art as therapy is facilitated through a grant from The Faris Foundation.

WRAP-AROUND CARE
We understand that it’s not just the sick child who is impacted by a life-altering medical diagnosis. From parents to siblings, all members of our Ronald McDonald House families face a range of unexpected issues as they cope with the medical crisis. RMHC Greater Houston and every member of our staff strives to provide wrap-around services that alleviate day to day necessities like laundry, meal service, groceries, clothing, self-care and much more. By taking care of practical day-to-day needs and alleviating financial burdens, RMHC Greater Houston allows families to focus on healing together.
“We didn’t know what to expect. We thought it might be a very sad place because everyone has a sick kid, but it’s nothing like that at all. There is so much joy and happiness here.” Parent

STORIES
FROM OUR HOUSE
Thomas
was diagnosed before birth with bilateral multicystic dysplastic kidneys, an abnormal fetal development where the kidneys consist of irregular cysts and have no function. When he was two years old, his mother, Macey, planned to donate one of her kidneys to Thomas. However, doctors determined that her kidney was not compatible. The family’s only option was to wait in Houston for a donor. For nearly 10 months, the Price family stayed at the Ronald McDonald House, close to Thomas’ doctors, the transplant team and the life-saving dialysis he needed 4 times a week. Thomas finally received a kidney and went home after 343 nights with us. Thanks to donations like yours, we can keep families close and support their needs, no matter how long it takes.

“The nurses and doctors in the hospital may have saved Isaac’s life. But Ronald McDonald House saved me.” Laura Connely
Adalee
was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, a condition in which she only had 1 chamber instead of 4. She was immediately flown to Texas Children’s Cardiac ICU as her family made the frantic drive from San Antonio to meet her. Adalee underwent open heart surgery the very next day - the first of several surgeries to repair her heart. For 6 months, her parents and siblings stayed at the Ronald McDonald House on Holcombe, just minutes from the hospitals and doctors. Adalee’s family had shelter, food, transportation and support during their stay with us, so they could focus on what truly mattered - Adalee’s treatment and recovery.
