How To Present to... Creators

The key to presenting to Creators is that you need to prepare as though you are presenting to a room full of people of different Operating Styles.

• Read through the suggested presentation strategies for all of the other styles because depending on where the Creator is … you could be presenting to an extreme version of any one of the other styles.

Pre-circulate relevant information to them before the presentation, letting them know what the objective of your presentation is.

• Understand that they might not read it at all, or they might devour it and read every detail.

Prior to the presentation, be sure to understand what their current “big ideas” are and if at all possible, ensure your presentation includes things that would support that “big idea” in any way.

• If your presentation is not really relevant to their key projects, ask if there is someone else they’d prefer you to deal with/present to?

When opening your presentation, clearly state the objective of the presentation.

• Ask them if they have any questions from the pre-circulated material. • You’ll soon find out if they’ve read it or not!

Acknowledge the current key project/s they are working on and if possible state how your presentation is relevant to them.

Ensure you keep your presentation as succinct as possible and focus only on the key elements

If using slides, use a combination of pictures, models, and data tables wherever possible.

• Minimise the amount of words on slides. • Maximum of three bullet points per slide.

Be prepared to alter your approach mid-presentation if they appear to change styles.
