The texts that have been chosen take us into the very heart of these books, and the meditations are given to uf in a con cise and comprehensive form, each one carrying a spiritual message that will prove stimulating to all its readers. Pub lished by Revell Co. Price $1.50. Ears and Tongues What a lot of foolish, senseless and sometimes positively harmful words we utter. We operate our tongues in about the same manner as many do the radio —turn on the power in the morning and let it run all day without paying the least attention to what is being said. There is a close and vital relation between our hearing and our speaking. The reason why a child born deaf appears to be dumb, also, is often due to the fact that it knows not how to utter a word because it has never heard a word spoken. The right kind of hearing is essential to the right kind of speaking. Pay attention to your hearing. In the morning before you converse with a single soul listen to the voice of God.— Guy Edward Mark. Faith Is the Victory Our fathers were men of conquering faith. They moved forward, not know ing whither God would lead them. They followed the cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night. They possessed an im perial faith that laughed at every impos sibility. Holy confidence, in its matchless sweep, overleaped t h e i r environments. They lived in a realm bright with the promises of God. Those^ blessed promises were always regnant with victory. This is the reason why “They saw their triumphs from afar, By faith they brought them nigh.” —The Presbyterian. Getting People to Church An old farmer who was attending a church convention chuckled to himself as he read over the subjects on the program. “See here, parson,” he said to his pas tor, “there’s one thing always amuses me about the way you church people go at the business. “You’ve had papers and discussions all day on how to get people to attend your meetings. I’ve never heard a single ad dress at a farmers’ convention on how to get cattle to come up to the rack. We put all our time on the best kinds of feed. “I sort of have a notion that if you put more time on discussing what to put in the rack you wouldn’t have to spend all that time discussing how to get your folks to attend.”— Selected.
