Sonoco To Implement $70 Per Ton Price Increases On URB

Hartsville, South Carolina based Sonoco Products Com- pany announced it is implementing a $70 per ton price increase for all grades of uncoated recycled paperboard (URB) in the US and Canada effective on April 10. John Florence, General Counsel, Industrial Paper Packaging North America, said the increase is the result of continued inflation and tight market conditions: “Sono- co is committed to continuously improving our product offerings and pricing strategies to serve our customers better. As part of this commitment, we are realigning to value-based pricing and transitioning away from offering old, corrugated container price mechanisms, which are not true reflections of our overall value and cost to serve customers. This change more accurately reflects current market conditions and the value of our products and ser- vice offerings while ensuring the sustainability of our oper- ations,” Florence said. Sonoco said it will also increase prices for all converted paperboard products by a minimum of 8 percent, begin- ning with shipments starting April 15. This includes paper- board tubes, cores, cones, partitions, and more.
