Hoosier Hills Career Center Students Complete Dementia Training

The Hoosier Hills Career Center had their first group of students complete dementia friendly programming. The HHCC contacted Amanda Mosier and Dayna Thompson from IU

Health Bloomington, specifically with the Dementia Friendly Team. As a part of the program, students and interested adults within the community discussed the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) opportunities for Hoosier Hills students. Hoosier Hills wanted to give something beyond the average training, thus the first of its kind, dementia-friendly caregiver certification developed with IU Health Bloomington, Cardon (Bell Trace), Golden Living, and Trilogy as community partners.

Students spent a total of 20-hours in training which included time at Jill's House where they worked with clients on day one, developed care plan activities, and then returned to carry out those activities on day two. They were also able to participate in a virtual dementia training to help realize what simple tasks are like for those struggling with dementia. Students finished the training with a presentation to their class on the experience and the awarding of a certificate of completion.
