TT T History
INCEPTION A product from Lynchburg's Dialogue on Race and Racism in 2008, Lynchburg Beacon of Hope is the actualization that education is key to a more successful future for the city and community at large. 2011-2015 Lynchburg Beacon of Hope launched the Future Centers in 2012 in E.C. Glass and Heritage High School. Following the success of the Future Centers, Beacon implemented programming in middle schools (2013) and elementary schools (2015). 2016-2020 Lynchburg Beacon of Hope continued to evolve programming to support students at every stage. In 2016, Beacon partnered with Central Virginia Community College (CVCC) to create a bridge of resources for Lynchburg City School graduates from high school to community college--laying the foundation for the Future Center currently at CVCC and the Stay Close, Go Far Scholarship. 2021-PRESENT Since the launch of the Stay Close, Go Far Program, Beacon has continued to grow. The Office of College and Career Success has supported over 1,200 students through programming and scholarships. In addition, Beacon has created programs and initiatives, such as the Summer Internship (2022), to meet the current and ongoing needs of students and our local workforce.
