P lanning and executing a wedding reception requires many challenging deci- sions that begin with simply deciding where, what, and when. When choosing where to hold your reception, keep in mind that a small guest list offers a larger selection of Island wedding venues. Groups of 100 or more guests are limited to just a few larger, full-service resort facilities on the Island. As for timing, if your guest list is large and you’ve selected a Saturday for your day, you should make ceremony and reception reser- vations at least nine to twelve months in advance. Having a smaller event offers more availability and planning is much easier. If you and your fiancé plan to elope on the Island, almost all of the hotels, bed & breakfasts, and inns can offer you last-minute helpful service and personalized advice. Larger hotels have on-site wedding coordinators you may consult who can take care of details at the hotel, or you
can hire a professional coordinator to completely handle all of the details from beginning to end. Start by mak- ing some calls or sending emails to get initial information and availability, YOU SHOULD MAKE RECEPTION ARRANGEMENTS

O h, those wonderful wedding cakes! Sumptuous, deli- cious, and ornately decorated, the cake is the center of attention at every wedding. Paige Elowsky of BELLA e DOLCE says, "Today's bride is more involved than ever in designing her wedding cake. Using each wedding couple's ideas, we work with them to design a cake that is as individual as they are. Fulfilling their vision, whether it is traditional, formal, or whimsical, provides a personal and unique focal point for the couple's reception." Wedding cakes today range from traditional to the contemporary styles adorned with colorful flowers, or fondant decorations. People definitely want their cake to look awesome, but also con- cerned with how it tastes. It can be beautiful and needs to taste amazing. As you search for the ultimate cake design, expect to see cre- ations you never imagined. Think of a luscious devil's food cake filled with chocolate mousse and glazed with shiny dark choc- olate. Or it could be designed and shaped like a stack of boxes wrapped in white chocolate ribbons. Designs are only limited by your imagination. Not to be overlooked is the cake topper. Remember, don't try to bring your cake from home. A local Mackinac baker will work with you to create your perfect cake and best of all, deliver and set it up at the reception. Dear Paige, What can we say but WOW. The cake and the dessert table were beautiful. The ability to design and make a cake to what our daughter had pictured was incredible. All the small desserts each more delicious than the next. Our guests were in awe over the cake and the desserts. Special thank you for helping our daughter to have the wedding of her dreams. Just Married Cathy Collins and Joe Cassin Cathy Collins and Joe Cassin got engaged on Mackinac Island in 2022 after traveling to Michigan to visit Cathy's daughter at U of M. Cathy and Joe fell in love with Mackinac Island and St. Anne's Church. They travel back the following year to find a venue and selected Stonecliffe trusting the vision for their event. Their wedding weekend started Friday with a private family mass downtown at St. Anne's Church with their children. The Mass was led by Father Leonard who also participated in the wedding ceremony on Saturday. After their Friday Mass the family enjoyed a dinner at Woods Restaurant before heading to Grand Hotel for evening dancing. Saturday was the main event. The wedding was held on the back lawn with a view of the bridge in the background. The reception was in the Sun Set Pavilion at the newly transformed Inn at Stonecliffe. The couples first dance started with a choreographed routine to "The Time of My Life". It was an incredibly beautiful weekend of events for Cathy and Joe, ending with their outdoor reception under a gorgeous nights sky.

are huge time savings when a wed- ding coordinator takes on the admin- istrative tasks such as coordinating schedules, meeting with vendors and confirming all the elements and timetables of the day. A coordinator will closely follow along the entire day to ensure perfect staging of your dream wedding. Couples can actual- ly save money because coordinators know best how to allocate your bud- get, what costly items to avoid and give ideas and realistic suggestions to save you money. Professional wedding coordinator Jazell Raycraft of FOR THE LOVE OF MACKINAC! says, "I like to talk with the couple about the entire wedding day to get a feel about them before I make any vendor referrals. That way I am able to tailor the vendors to suit their needs, preferences, and budget." With a coordinator involved, the bride and groom can relax and simply be guests at their own wedding. "On the day of the wedding I make sure that everyone is in their place and everything is where it needs to
be. I am in constant contact with the vendors. This way the couple and her families won't have to deal with any last minute issues," explains Jazell.
