HOW TO GET YOUR MARRIAGE LICENSE If you're a legal resident of the State of Michigan you must apply and pay for a license in the township where you reside. Contact your county courthouse for wedding license information and follow their instructions. This should be done at least one month prior to your wedding day. If you currently live outside the state of Michigan, you must contact the Mackinac County Courthouse to apply and pay for your marriage license. Call 906-643-7300 and the friendly county clerks will assit you with the license and answer any questions you might have. The license in Mackinac County costs $30 and is valid for 33 days. Simply order and pay for the license in advance, then plan to pick up the license just before you come to the Island for the wedding. The Mackinac County courthouse is located on the mainland at 100 South Marley Street, St. Ignace, Michigan and is open Monday through Friday 8:30 am until 4:30 pm only. They are closed on weekends and holidays. After your wedding ceremony, the bride and groom will each sign the license along with two witnesses. Your minister will give you one copy to keep for your own records and one to be mailed to the County Courthouse to keep on file. Make sure the bride signs her new last name on the license.
