7 BIZARRE HOBBIES THAT KEEP PEOPLE BUSY DO MORE OF WHAT YOU LOVE
TOY VOYAGING Have you ever had the urge to send your toy off on a vacation or a trip around the world? Some people actually do this and track their toy’s adventures online in the art of toy voyaging. Sometimes, these toys even become famous. NEWS BOMBING Some people set out to be photographed or filmed in the background of news reports. They make it their mission to find out where the news will be filming and do all that they can to “photo bomb” and make it into the shot’s background! Fifteen seconds of fame, anyone? DUCK HERDING It’s common to see ducks at the park, around a lake, or even in some parking lots, but did you know that some people take part in duck herding? Hobbyists will try to train ducks to herd like they’re sheep. Duck herding events are even held In the UK. “January is National Hobby Month, and that means it’s time for you to embrace your passion by creating more time for whatever it is that makes you happy!”
It’s often advised to do more of what makes you happy. If you enjoy fishing, get out on the water with a fishing pole more often. If you love to craft, find more time to crochet, paint, or get creative with different materials. If songwriting and music are your thing, get in the studio more often! No matter what it is that you enjoy, you need to do more of it. January is National Hobby Month, and that means it’s time for you to embrace your passion by creating more time for whatever it is that makes you happy! In the meantime, to add some encouragement and light a fire under your butt to get out there and practice your favorite hobbies, I decided to share a few of the most bizarre hobbies that real people actually practice! Let’s take a look. COLLECTING NAVEL FLUFF While collecting coins, shells, and stamps are completely normal and widely practiced, one man in Australia collects the fluff he finds in his belly button. In fact, he’s been collecting it since 1984. EXTREME IRONING You’ve likely never heard of ironing clothes as a “sport” or a hobby, but some people have taken the household chore of ironing and combined it with extreme activities to create an outdoor activity. In essence, they iron clothes underwater, in the sky, or while bike riding. If you’re a great multitasker, you may want to research this one.
NOODLING What is noodling? It’s the art of fishing in shallow water with only your bare hands. Typically, catfish are the easiest and most common fish that “noodlers” catch. DORODANGO AKA DIRT POLISHING Have you ever heard the expression that you can’t polish a turd? Well, people actually polish dirt balls! It’s a Japanese art form — Hikaru Dorodango translates into “shiny mud dumpling.” As we kick off 2023, what are your favorite hobbies and how do you plan to incorporate more of what you love into your daily
routine? Remember, hobbies are healthy!

THROUGH ENCOURAGEMENT AND CONSIDERATION SHOWING APPRECIATION IN THE WORKPLACE
TANGIBLE GIFTS A nice, personalized gift can be a display that you acknowledge your employee’s or coworker’s passions and preferences. The more you converse with them and learn about their personal lives, you can choose a more meaningful gift and bring a smile to their face. APPROPRIATE PHYSICAL TOUCH This language can be tricky, but it’s about respecting boundaries. A high-five, fist bump, pat on the shoulder, and a handshake are generally acceptable, but it is best not to assume. Everyone’s level of comfort differs, so always ask before initiating any type of appropriate physical touch. If you take the time to understand your employees’ preferred language of appreciation, you can communicate more meaningfully and positively.
Have you ever heard of “The 5 Love Languages” by Gary Chapman? It’s an incredibly popular book that identifies
message to be clear, consider describing the situation you’re referring to, discussing the behavior you are looking to celebrate, and highlighting the impact of the behavior on you, the team, and the organization. QUALITY TIME This language is all about receiving complete and focused attention. This means taking the time for mentorships, checking in meaningfully, and creating moments for teams to connect. For employees who value quality time, having dedicated time to connect and learn from their employers and coworkers can be significantly impactful as they feel seen and heard. ACTS OF SERVICE Simply picking up an extra coffee for a team member, or alleviating a work task off someone’s plate, shows that you care about their overall well-being and brings them joy.
different ways individuals prefer to give and receive love. You can communicate more effectively with your partners, friends, and family by considering their personal needs and using the language that speaks to them best. But did you know you can apply these same principles to show appreciation and encouragement at work? When you understand and use your employees’ preferred language of appreciation, your workplace culture will significantly improve. WORDS OF AFFIRMATION A thank-you note or shout-out from a colleague is quite powerful, but it’s even more effective when it’s specific to an act or moment because it shows that you are paying attention to what matters. For your
If you or a loved one has been convicted of first-degree arson, you will find yourself facing felony charges and punishment of 1–20 years in prison and a $50,000 fine. However, defending your charges is possible by hiring an aggressive criminal defense attorney, telling your truthful account of what events took place before, during, and after the alleged arson, and understanding the difference between a defense and a plea deal. A defense gives you the opportunity to fight the charges while a plea deal requires you to admit guilt, and in turn, receive a less severe sentence. Some common defenses to arson in the first degree include: HEATING IT UP UNDERSTANDING FIRST-DEGREE ARSON
The crime of first-degree arson sounds pretty serious, right? Well, that’s because it is! In the state of Georgia, arson is separated into four different tiers, and first-degree is the most consequential. Under Georgia’s criminal state statute 16-7-60, arson is defined as the criminal act of using fire or an explosive to knowingly and purposefully damage property. However, if you knowingly cause someone else to commit arson, you may still be charged. The cause may be to advise, aid, abet, counsel, hire, procure, or encourage another, leading them to commit the crime. But, what types of property damaged by a fire or an explosive can lead to an arson charge? Georgia law includes the following property types within their statute: • A dwelling or house that belongs to another person. • A building, vehicle, watercraft, railroad car, or another structure. (The owner did not consent to the arson.) • An occupied, unoccupied, or vacant building, railroad car, vehicle, or structure. (The arson was committed with intent to harm the owner.) • A building, structure, vehicle, or railroad car (The victim’s life was placed in danger because of the fire.)

Did you know that in many motor vehicle accidents, police will issue following-too-closely tickets, but in some cases, the drivers receiving these citations are not guilty of following another vehicle too closely? When individuals opt to plead no contest in a court of law in hopes of the best outcome, it may not be the best option. Instead, hiring a skilled accident attorney can help you avoid this citation being placed on your driving record. According to Georgia’s state statute 40-6-49, drivers should not follow behind another motor vehicle any closer than is considered to be “reasonable and prudent.” In addition: • CARAVANS. If you are driving a caravan on roads outside of business or residential districts, you must allow sufficient space between each vehicle for another vehicle to safely fit in between the two. • MOTOR VEHICLES PULLING ANOTHER VEHICLE. If you are pulling another vehicle, you must leave sufficient space so that an overtaking vehicle can enter and occupy the space without danger. • REASONABLE DRIVING. Drivers must not follow other vehicles closer than is considered to be reasonable and prudent while taking into consideration the speed of the vehicles, the amount of traffic, and the roadside conditions. • STOPPED OR SLOWED VEHICLE. Drivers should be aware that they are still considered to be following if approaching a vehicle that is stopped or slowed to make a turn. So, how do you determine if your following distance is considered to be reasonable and prudent? The “three-second rule” is a great help. Essentially, you should maintain three car lengths between your vehicle and the one in front of you. If the road conditions are rainy or snowy, double the three-second rule! On the flip side, if you feel that you are being followed too closely by another vehicle, move over to another lane to avoid potential safety hazards. BACK OFF!
