CRASH COURSE WHAT TO DO IF YOU ARE IN AN ACCIDENT
Keep calm: Call 911 to report the accident. In Florida, you are required to have a Traffic Crash Report completed if the crash results in serious property damage, bodily injury, or death. Move your vehicle: If your vehicle is a hazard to other vehicles, move it out of the way if it is safe to do so. Avoid further injury: Turn off all cars involved. Don’t move anyone who may be injured unless they are in immediate danger. Find a safe place to stand away from the vehicles in case they are hit again. Avoid confrontation: The scene of a car crash is no place to argue with other drivers over who is at fault. It is best not to discuss how the accident happened. Wait for the police and obey their instructions. Exchange information: You should exchange driver’s license, registration, and insurance information with the other driver(s). Find witnesses: Even if the other driver admits fault, it is still helpful to obtain the names and phone numbers of as many witnesses as possible.
Take pictures and videos: We recommend that you take pictures and videos of the damage to your vehicle and the accident scene. Also, be sure to take pictures and videos of your injuries as soon as you get home and every day as the injuries progress/heal. Seek medical attention: If you experience even minor pain, you should seek medical attention right away. Remember, in Florida, you only have 14 days after your accident to seek treatment or you could waive your rights to a medical claim. Protect your rights: Although you generally must provide reasonable cooperation with your own insurance company’s investigation, the same is NOT true for the other parties’ insurance company. You are under no duty to cooperate with the other driver’s insurance company. Call us as soon as possible: You should consult an attorney before giving a statement to anyone, even your own insurance company. We have vast experience in handling auto accident cases. We care, and we will help you take all the appropriate steps to protect your rights and interests. Why settle for less?
We strongly suggest you read the following tips now and immediately place this guide in your vehicle’s glove compartment, in case you ever need it.
