Honor Societies
The following activities and opportunities are designed to help you reach your academic aspirations and career readiness goals. Please contact us for more information and to confirm details, as our program offerings may vary over time. Combined Program Pathways
For high-achieving students, the Order of Sword and Shield National Honor Society recognizes excellence in all homeland security- related disciplines. Membership provides not only academic recognition but also opportunities for networking and professional development within the homeland security mission space. Reference letter requirements are waived for PATHWAYS participants. We are working to include additional honor societies. Honors Summer Seminars Deepen your academic experience by participating in our Honors Summer Seminars. These seminars may be offered online, in person or in a hybrid format in May or June and are led by senior faculty who offer an engaging and interactive exploration of specialized topics. A past seminar examined the significance of monsters in popular culture, providing an immersive and intellectually stimulating environment. Successfully completed Honors Summer Seminars can be used to meet requirements for the Worldwide Campus Honors Program that is being developed.
By enrolling in our Combined Program Pathways, you have the opportunity to
shorten your educational timeline, obtaining both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in as few as five years. Our integrated programs enable you to begin taking graduate courses while still finishing your undergraduate degree, which helps you save both time and money on tuition. Fields like Emergency Services, Human Security and Resilience and Occupational Safety Management offer pathways for you to launch your career faster with advanced academic preparation. Student Interest Groups Build community and pursue personal interests through Student Interest Groups, such as the Economics and Aviation Fiction Reading Groups. These spaces allow you to connect with peers who share your interests while engaging in meaningful discussions and activities outside the classroom. Students who are interested in starting an Interest Group can contact the PATHWAYS director.
Study Abroad Summer Program
Student Research Experiences
For those seeking international experiences, the Study Abroad Summer Program allows you to immerse yourself in different cultures while exploring your academic discipline through a new framework. Past programs have taken students to Brussels, Frankfurt, Munich, Paris, Salzburg and Vienna to explore European politics and culture, as well as to Greece and Italy, where participants explored the interdisciplinary connections between STEM and humanities fields in a hands-on setting while visiting classical archaeological sites. Research Scholars Program Students who aspire to engage in sustained research activities over the course of their undergraduate career are invited to apply for admittance into the Undergraduate Research Scholars Program. Requirements include: s Two or more semesters of research under the supervision of a mentor s Completion of research training s Research dissemination s Reflective writing on research experiences Students who complete the program will receive a Research Scholar notation on their academic transcript. PATHWAYS is committed to assisting its student members in fulfilling all necessary criteria.
You can gain hands-on research experience through the Student Research Experience and Mentorship Program. This includes opportunities for research assistant positions, where you collaborate closely with faculty, contribute to important research and may present findings at conferences or in publications. These paid positions empower invaluable professional and academic growth.
