secret, once said: “I came to Jésus and I drank, and I do not think that I shall ever be thirsty again. I have taken for my motto, ‘Not overwork, but overflow’; and already it has made all the differ ence in my life.” There is no effort in overflow. It is quietly irresistible. It is the normal life of omnipotent and cease less accomplishment into which Christ in vites us today and always.—.S'. S. Times. —o— November 25— “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? Hope thou in God : for I shall yet praise him” (Psa. 42:11). Obstacles ought to set us singing. The wind finds voice, not when rushing across the open sea, but when hindered by the outstretched arms of the pine trees, or b r o k e n by the fine strings of an Aeolian harp. Then it has songs of power and beauty. Set your freed soul sweeping across the obstacles of life, through grim forests of pain, against even the tiny hindrances and frets that love uses, and it, too, will find its singing voice.— Selected. —o— November 26— “I f thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that be lieveth’’ (Mark 9:23). The father of the afflicted child had taken him to the disciples to be healed by them, but found they were unable to cast out the devil. What little faith the man had possessed was evidently weak ened by their failure, and it was almost in despair that he spoke these words to Jesus, ‘‘But if thou canst do anything, have compassion on us, and help us.” Jesus gently rebuked this lack of faith, and said unto him, “If thou canst be lieve, all things are possible to him that believeth.” Let us pause a moment to consider two glorious possibilities : “With God all things are possible,” and “All things are possible to him that believeth.” How many of us, judging from our faithless conduct, would have replied that we did not know how to believe ; that we could not believe ; that we were not born with faith and were therefore incapable of believing. That troubled, sorrowing father knew that the only condition for his child’s healing was believing ; and without searching his heart to see if he found there some mysterious emotion, such as many people now understand faith to be, he at once signified his will ingness to fulufill the necessary condition by making an effort to believe. Straightway, without waiting a mo ment, even while with tears he was be moaning his lack of faith and asking Christ to help his unbelief, he made the effort of intellect and will, and said, “Lord, I believe” ; not “Lord, I will be lieve when Thou dost help mine unbe lief,” but “I will believe, I do believe this moment.” He had acted upon the deter mination to believe in spite of himself, in spite of his unbelief ; and as he made the effort the power was given. “The Shepherd does not ask of thee Faith in thy faith, but only faith in Him; And this He meant in saying, ‘Gome to me.’ In light or darkness seek to do His will, And leave the work of faith to Jesus still.” —The Prayer of Faith.
