THE KING’ S BUSINESS

No, the last and greatest war o f all the fighting centuries is here, the war against war. Pro patria mori? No, not by bullet, but if you insist upon g heroics, comfort yourself with the truth that it is far harder to live for something than to die for it. Have you the nerve tq stand alone against the mob, to look sentimental savagery in the face and say no? Come on then. You who have the courage and the vision to be the cowards and fools o f God— fall in ! H. DREYER posters in many different cities along the way. More than half a million have been published, and it is encouraging to,think o f the silent but effective testimony they are bearing day by day. How we wish that every province in China might have a large edition! Not a few have been used to replace idols taken down by new con verts. What better use could these posters be put .to than to proclaim the Gospel to all friends and relatives o f those who have just come out on the Lord’s side? You may be interested to know that one o f the •Bible Institute students was saved through a Gospel poster, with the words, “ Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved and thy house,” and now another brother is here at the Bible Institute with him (and they are self-supporting), while the other members o f the family are either saved or interested in the Truth, so that the text is finding complete fulfillment in his case. On his way to the coast Mr. Dreyer met a number o f former Bible Institute students and he was encouraged to learn o f the good work some o f them are doing. In this connection it may be o f interest to quote from some o f our recent corre spondence : “The student you sent to supply on Sunday was much appreciated. Send him again.” “ The returned students are doing well and we are grateful for all the benefit they derived under your care.”

a matter o f a world, a battle for the race. How long can a world-history like, that of the past two years go on before evolution turns back upon itself and men couple with wolves? New rules! New game! It must be that. What is that old verse? “ Not by might nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord.” What else will save us? Europe has relied for salvation upon her armies, and look at her! Glorious salva tion! Quite as well be damned as that.

--------------------O —---------------- SHANSI BIBLE INSTITUTE By MRS. F. C.

S HANSI Bible Institute, Hungtung, North China, opened its tenth half- year session with an attendance o f thirty- five students from the provinces o f Shansi, Shensi, Honan and Chihli, two o f whom came from the English Baptist Mission, one from the Lutheran'Mission in Honan, four from the Swedish Mission in China (associ ated with the China Inland Mission) and the rest from the China Inland Mission. W e had a series o f .special meetings at our Mission Room on the' main street, which appear to have been blessed to the salvation o f seyeral souls. One gentleman who publicly professed faith in Christ went at once with a friend to the Opium Refuge to break off his opium habit. On his return he sent his younger brother and his son to our Christian school. In the midst o f this special effort to reach the business men of this city, Mr. Dreyer’s intense suffering necessitated a trip to the coast to see a dentist, and the consequent closing o f the Bible Institute ten days before the scheduled date. He later escorted Frederic and eight other children as far as Tientsin, on their way to Chefoo to school. Edith was unable to go. You can imagine our disappointment when word came that there would not be accommoda tion for her this year. The preparatory school at Kuling burnt down last year and Chefoo is therefore overcrowded. It was a great joy to see the Gospel
