It is important to remember that a civil partnership between opposite sex couples cannot be converted into a marriage at a later date and may not be recognised in other countries.

The registration service is unable to give advice on the validity of any marriage or civil partnership, or of the benefits of choosing a marriage or civil partnership, if you are unsure then you should seek independent legal advice.
