The USA returned to the top of medal podium after posting an unblemished 7-0 record that saw the Americans top their opponents by an average of 28.7 points a game. The team featured five players who had one season of college basketball under their belts and seven players who played in high school in 2018-19. Behind a 20-point performance from Reggie Perry and 16 points from Scottie Barnes, the USA raced past New Zealand 111-71 in the opening game. The USA forced 26 turnovers and scored 40 points in transition in a hard-fought 102-84 win over Lithuania as Cade Cunningham and Tyrese Haliburton each finished with 21 points. Behind a balanced scoring effort that featured six players double-digits, including a game-high 14 points from Jalen Green and Jalen Suggs, the U.S. rolled to an 87-58 victory over Senegal to improve to 3-0. Six players scored in double digits as the USA dismantled Latvia 116-66 in the round of 16. Trevion Williams posted 17 points and 12 rebounds and Cunningham tallied 11 points and a USA U19 single-game record 10 assists. The USA jumped on Russia from the start and took a 51-27 lead at the midway point. Russia fought closed to within nine points near the end of the third quarter, 66-57, however, the USA regained control and opened a 79-60 lead and went on to lead by as many as 25 points before earning a 95-80 win. Perry made 10-of-15 shots to lead the USA with 28 points, while adding eight rebounds, three assists and three steals. A 15-0 run early in the third quarter was a turning point for the USA in its 102-67 semifinal win over Lithuania. Green finished with 18 points; Suggs added 15 points and six steals; and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl contributed 13 points and 10 rebounds. Facing the surprise team of the 2019 FIBA U19 World Cup for the gold medal, Mali, the first half was tightly contested, and the USA led 42-40 after a back-and-forth first 20 minutes. The red, white and blue opened the third period with a 12-0 run that became a 17-2 stretch, which pushed the lead to 59-42 with 5:42 left in the third quarter. Mali did not get closer than seven points for the remainder of the game as the USA went on to post a 93-79 victory. Perry, who led the USA in scoring and rebounding, averaging 13.1 points and 7.9 rebounds, was named MVP of the tournament. Joining Perry on the five-member all-tournament team was teammate Haliburton, who posted 7.9 points and team-high 6.9 assists a game.
