Rewards for Best Answers to One Hundred Questions t o ™ ANY of our friends have been anxiously wait- ing to hear the results of the answers to the Jf 100 questions asked over the radio every Tuesday afternoon at one o’clock by Rev. I T 7 S W . H. Pike at the Question Hour. At this "*■ time Mr. Pike offered three prizes for the best answers to 100 questions asked between January and June. The first prize was to be a very fine Scofield Bible No. 75X, the second a copy of 1929 Peloubet’s Notes on the International Sunday School Lessons, the third a copy of “Bible Manners and Customs,” by Dr. Mackie. The results of this contest have been interesting in deed. There was a liberal number of people who began answering these questions but failed to complete the hun dred. However, seventeen finished the hundred and sent in their papers. These showed earnest research and splen did effort. Lack of space prevents the mention of each one by name. Sufficient to say they all passed above 75%. Some of these answers came from as far away as El Paso, Texas; Nashville, Tenn.; and Ft. Wayne, Ind. One lady over 75 years of age answered 83% of the questions correctly. In a note with her answers she said: “I have taken the K ing ’ s B usiness a good many years, don’t see how I could do without it. I must explain why I am writing with a pencil. Several years ago I had a spell of blood poisoning which resulted in my right hand being perfectly stiff, so I have to write with my left hand.” She ought to be remembered with honorable mention. Her name is Mrs. John Langham, 300 S. 10th St., Nashville, Tenn. The winner of the first prize is an elderly man living in Pasadena. His name is Dr. H. W, Barnum, 640 N. Chester Ave., Pasadena, California. He answered 94J4 % of the questions correctly. Dr. Barnum has practiced medicine for a number of years, but for sixteen years he has given his time to writing for the Pasadena Star News on the International Sunday School Lessons and for the Long Beach Press. He says in a note accompanying his answers: “The study entailed in the answering of the 100 questions has been a delight. Indeed, Bible study has been my only business for sixteen and over years. Your ques tions, I want you to know, have been the means of afford ing me many hours of profitable study as well as a great delight.” We are very glad to present to this earnest Bible student the beautiful Scofield Bible. The second prize is given to Jennie Gale (Mrs. W. R.) Irwin, 920 E. Del Mar St., Pasadena, Calif. She answered 93% of the 100 questions. Her paper showed almost as diligent reading of the Scriptures as did Dr. Barnum’s. For a layman she is a very close observer of the sacred narrative. The winners of the third prize were a tie, each one answering 91%% of the questions correctly. Miss Frieda M. Goering of Elyria, Kansas, wins one, and Mrs. Laura Sewell, 5145 De Longpre Ave., Hollywood, California, takes the other. We are glad that Kansas has at least one

Bible student, and we congratulate Hollywood for having even one. The inquiries during the past year from these different centers, about the Bible, lead us to believe that throughout the country there are many devout souls hungering for a greater knowledge of this greatest of all books. Would God that the coming generation might be as enthusiastic to know the mind of God as these elderly devoted Chris tians. Corrected papers will bé mailed to those requesting them by mail or phone. —o—- Dr. Ward’s Outlines on Radio KTBI (So many letters from bur Radio audience have been received expressing appreciation of Dr. Ward’s devotional hour —8:15-8:45 a m.— that we are constrained to give the -K ing ’ s B usiness readers the benefit o f reading his out lines. — E ditor .) Phil. 3:13. “This one thing 1 do.” We are getting ready for a new day’s work. It will be a good thing to start out with a definite pur pose. The real success of the day will be i n : 1st. Setting an objective before us. 2nd. Making sure it is the right objective. 3rd. Bend every energy to reach the objective. Two great things about today: 1st. It is a brand new day. 2nd. It is full of entirely new opportunities. If your yesterday was full of regrets, and your tomor row seems full of worries, let us forget them all and tackle today’s opportunities and push them to the limit. A lot of people start out in the morning like bound prisoners chained down by their circumstances. You can be either king of your circumstances to com mand them, dr slave to obey them, just as you yield your self to them. Put all your worries into the sieve of faith in Christ and they will dwindle down to a few rough klinkers that will never strike fire. Winning or losing out in today’s tasks will depend on whether you make them handicaps or helps. Don’t travel in the subway of fear when God intended you should travel on the elevated road of hope. Don’t give up because you have failed. Remember that the natural order is that resurrection follows death. Nearly the whole race of life is a struggle, but your chances of winning are even if you just keep going. It’s the trifles that reduce us more than the hard knocks. Paul learned the real secret of successful living by making God his objective, and then he pushed right on for it. “I press toward the .mark.” Make God your objective—Press on toward Him. “This one thing I do.”
