AEROSPACE SCIENCE I (10-12th Grades) (1 Credit) Prerequisite: None
Course focuses on development of flight throughout the centuries. It started with ancient civilizations, then progresses through time to modern day. The emphasis is on civilians and military contributions to aviation; the development, modernization, and transformation of the Air Force; and a brief astronomical and space exploration history. It is interspersed with concise overviews of the principles of flight to include basic aeronautics, aircraft motions and control, flight power, and rockets. Throughout the course, there are readings, videos and in text and workbook exercises. Leadership Education I: Introduces cadets to Air Force Junior Reserve Officer training course (AFJROTC) program, providing basics for progression through the rest of the AFJROTC program while instilling elements of good citizenship. It contains sections on cadet and Air Force organizational structure; uniform wear; customs, courtesies, and other military traditions; health and wellness; fitness; individual self control; and citizenship. Wellness/Physical Fitness: This portion will incorporate the Cadet Health and Wellness Program (CHWP). The CHWP is an exercise program focused upon individual base line improvements with the goal of achieving a Presidential Physical Fitness standard calculated with age and gender. The goal of the CHWP is to motivate JROTC cadets to lead active, healthy lifestyles beyond program requirements and into their adult lives. Cadets will be given the opportunity to put into practice the wellness concepts that are taught in Leadership Education I. Successful completion of one year of AFJROTC will satisfy the Health and PE requirements for graduation.
