BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA • JUNE 3-9, 2024

In pursuit of a seventh consecutive gold medal at the FIBA Men’s U18 AmeriCup, the United States went 6-0, securing another championship. The tournament began with a 22-point (88-66) win over Argentina. Led by Tommy Lloyd (Arizona), the Americans won game two 150-54 over Belize on June 4. The Americans opened the game on a 23-0 run and never looked back. Daniel Jacobsen and the USA’s defensive prowess were on full display in their 88-57 win over Brazil, which gave them the top spot in Group B. Jacobsen swatted four shots away, while the Americans held the Brazilians to shooting only 32.8 percent from the field. The U.S. team’s quarterfinals against Puerto Rico started slowly, down 17-10 in the first quarter. Nikolas Khamenia, Trey McKenney, and Morez Johnson Jr. all played pivotal roles in gaining momentum back for the Americans, helping them to a 98-66 victory. Johnson Jr., who finished the tournament with two double-doubles, posted 11 points and 17 rebounds in the win. The USA took on Canada in the semifinals and won convincingly, with a 107-69 advantage. Derrion Reid (12), Jeremiah Fears (12), Jasper Johnson (11), Shelton Henderson (11), and Johnson Jr. (10) all were significant contributors off the bench, leading the Americans to outscore the Canadians bench 59-37. USA MEN’S U18 AMERICUP TEAM 2018 RESULTS

With a fifth-straight FIBA AmeriCup U18 Championship gold medal on the line, the 2018 USA Men’s U18 National Team completed that task and added a cherry on top, becoming the first USA men’s squad to score in triple digits in each game and posting a 6-0 record. In 240 minutes of play, the United States men trailed their opponents all of three minutes, all in the early first quarter of the gold medal game against Canada. Overall, the USA led in most of the major statistical categories, including points averaged (114.5), margin of victory (+49.3), scoring defense (65.2), field goal percentage (.533), free throw percentage (.752), blocks (6.8), assists (29.0) and steals (12.0). Led by Hall of Famer and University of Kansas head coach Bill Self, the USA opened with a dominating 105-73 victory over Dominican Repub- lic. All 12 players scored, including six in double digits, and Cole Anthony led the offensive effort with 18 points. The USA opened with a 45-0 run and never looked back en route to a 118-26 victory over Panama. Again all 12 team members scored, led by Armando Bacot’s 17 points. In the USA’s final preliminary game, eventual tournament MVP Quentin Grimes paced the squad with 20 points in a 115-71 win over Puerto Rico. Advancing to the quarterfinals against Ecuador, which was 0-3 after the opening round, the U.S. received a 20-point and 11-rebound dou- ble-double from Trayce Jackson-Davis in a 132-55 finish. Argentina was the only team to keep it close to the USA, but could not overcome the USA’s depth in the semifinals, and the U.S. advanced to the gold medal game with a 104-92 win. Leading the way was Grimes with 26 points and Coby White with 25. In front of a packed house cheering loudly for the home team, the USA withstood an early run from Canada and dominated the game’s final 36 minutes to claim a 113-74 victory and the gold medal behind 18 points from Anthony. In addition to Grimes, the All-Tournament Team included Anthony and White, along with Argentina’s Francisco Caffaro and Canada’s Andrew Nembhard. ST. CATHARINES, CANADA • JUNE 10-16, 2018
