ALL-TIME USA MEN’S U17 WORLD CUP TEAM 2022 RESULTS
MALAGA, SPAIN • JULY 2-10, 2022
The Americans improved 44-0 (7-0 in 2022) as they won their fifth straight U17 gold medal. The USA opened the tournament with a over Lebanon, 120-44. David Castillo finished with 21 points (8-11 FG). Cooper Flagg finished with 13 rebounds and four blocks. The U.S. recorded 24 steals and 12 blocks, both event highs in their respective categories, and shot 50% (50-100 FG) from the field. Game 2 against Slovenia was close to start, but the U.S. was turned a one-point deficit (20-21) midway through the second quarter into a 16-point advantage at half (40-24). The U.S. would go on to win 88-55. Ron Holland led the Americans in scoring with 14 points. Against Mali, the USA would capture the 112-64 victory. Ian Jackson put on a stellar performance, scoring 26 points (11-14 FG), the most by an American during the tournament and third most by a U.S. player since 2010. The U.S. matched up with Egypt in the round of 16 and jumped out to a 9-0 lead. Eventually winning 103-48, Karter Knox led the charge with 18 points and nine rebounds. The team had 68 rebounds, the most ever by a U.S. squad at the event. The USA advanced to a quarterfinal matchup with Serbia, who led through the first seven minutes before an Asa Newell 3-pointer gave the U.S. their first lead, 20-18, with just over two minutes remaining in the opening frame. The U.S. won 106-80 and shot a record-setting 12-of- 24 from 3, marking the most 3s made by an American U17 team. In the semifinals, the U.S. defeated Lithuania 89-62 and held Lithuania to seven points in the first quarter. The gold medal game saw the U.S. match up against Spain. In a tightly contested contest, the Americans trailed until the 2:39 mark of the third quarter, where they were able to turn the tide and take an 11-point lead into the final frame (62-51). From there, the U.S. held on to capture their sixth consecutive gold medal with a 79-67 win. Flagg’s play came to a head, where he recorded 10 points, 17 rebounds, two assists, eight steals and four blocks to set multiple U17 World Cup records. His 17 rebounds set a new mark for most rebounds in a game by an American at a World Cup, while his eight steals tied the most by any player. Flagg and Koa Peat were the Americans named to the All-Star Five. In the bronze medal game, France defeated Lithuania (66-58).

ALL-TIME USA MEN’S U17 WORLD CUP TEAM 2016 RESULTS
ZARAGOZA, SPAIN • JUNE 23-JULY 3, 2016
Led by Don Showalter for the fourth time in as many U17 World Cups, the USA swept its competition by an average of 44.6 points a game and dominated the glass by a +24.6 margin. Further, the USA trailed for fewer than 12 of the 280 minutes played over its seven-game run. As it had in the previous three editions of the event, the USA produced the tournament MVP. Collin Sexton, a last-minute invite to training camp, came off the bench to average a team-leading 17.0 points, while dishing out a team-best 4.2 assists. Joining Sexton on the All-Star Five was USA teammate Wendell Carter Jr. Led by 15 points by Kevin Knox II, the U.S. had seven athletes score in double digits en route to a 119-45 victory over Taiwan. Sexton powered the USA with 20 points in its closest win of the tournament, an 18-point 84-66 defeat of Turkey. Closing preliminary play, the Americans dispatched Egypt 104-57 as seven U.S. players scored in double digits, led by 19 from Markus Howard. Meeting South American rival Argentina in the round of 16, the USA wasted no time running out to an early lead and an eventual 109-56 win. Carte’Are Gordon and Sexton tied for team-high scoring honors with 14 points apiece. Trailing for the first time in the tournament, 13-7 at 4:15 in the first period of its quarterfinals game against South Korea, the USA went up 14-13 30 seconds later. From there, led by 24 points from Sexton, the Americans raced to a record-setting 133-81 victory to advance to the semifinals. The 133 points was the most the U.S. men had scored in U17 play (previous was 132). After a close first half, which saw the U.S. hold a 47-37 lead at the break, a 16-2 third quarter run separated the USA from Lithuania in a 98-70 semifinal victory as Howard led the team with 15 points. For a finals rematch against a confident Turkish squad, the U.S. spotted Turkey an 8-2 lead to start the game. From there, however, the Amer- icans turned on the ignition, went on a 19-0 scoring spree and continued to dominate for a 96-56 golden victory behind 17 points from Trent. The win was the largest margin of victory in a men’s U17 title game.

ALL-TIME USA MEN’S U17 WORLD CUP TEAM 2014 RESULTS
DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES • AUGUST 8-16, 2014
As two-time defending FIBA U17 gold medalists, the 2014 USA U17 squad shook off the pressure of keeping its winning streak alive and came away with a perfect 7-0 record and the gold medal. Led by coach Don Showalter, who upped his overall U17 record to 23-0, the U.S. was paced by eventual MVP Malik Newman’s 14.9 points and 3.0 assists a game. Joining Newman on the five-member all-tournament team was Diamond Stone, who added 13.4 points and a team-best 9.7 rebounds per game. The USA, which had a well-rounded scoring effort that saw five players average in double-digits, never trailed in its first five games and lagged behind for just 8:19 in its final two contests. Paced by Stone’s 22 points and 10 boards, the U.S. earned an 83-73 opening victory over a strong Greek squad. Two days later, the USA ran away with a 99-56 win over Angola as all 12 athletes scored, led by 14 points from Harry Giles. Closing preliminary play, the USA earned a 124-64 victory over Philippines, paced by 16 points apiece from Josh Jackson and Newman. Behind Jayson Tatum’s 19 points, the U.S. jumped out 22-0 and dispatched Japan 122-38 in its round of 16 game. The Americans downed China 113-71 in the quarterfinals behind 21 points and 10 rebounds from Henry Ellenson. After holding onto a narrow 39-36 edge at halftime, the U.S. broke away from previously unbeaten Serbia to take an 89-68 semifinal win behind a team-high 15 points from Newman. Advancing to the finals against an Australian squad that came back from a 22-point deficit to earn an 80-74 overtime win over Spain the semi- finals, the red, white and blue held off Australia 99-92. The USA fell behind by 10 points early, but slowly chipped away at Australia’s lead and went up for good, 28-27, to close out the first quarter. However, each time the USA tried to pull away, Australia, which hit 11 3s, battled back. When the USA held its final double-digit lead of the game, 92-82, Australia began launching 3s, three of which hit their mark and with 30.1 seconds left the edge was down to 96-91. However, the Americans would not let the Aussies any closer and held on for the victory.
