USA WOMEN’S U17 WORLD CUP TEAM 2022 RESULTS
DEBRECEN, HUNGARY • JULY 9-17, 2022
The USA accomplished its goal of finishing with a 7-0 record while capturing the fifth gold medal since the event’s inception in 2010. Coached by Sue Phillips, who served her second women’s U17 assignment and first since 2014, the team made their way through the group phase with ease. Starting with Mali, the team captured the 78-49 victory. Mackenly Randolph scored a team-high 12 points off the bench, leading the U.S. reserves who contrib- uted 48. The U.S. started to establish their dominance in the closing game of group play. The team faced Germany, making for a clash of the two undefeated teams in Group D. USA came out on top, 86-40. The team caused 39 German turnovers while recording a then-tournament-high eight blocks. Juju Watkins would finish with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Jadyn Donovan had her first double-digit outing (10 points). Heading into the round of 16, the U.S. faced South Korea. The Americans kicked their play into high gear with a 114-29 win. The team had eight players finish in double-figures and dished out a USA U17 team record-tying 35 assists. That same energy carried over to the quarterfinals when the Americans defeated Japan 112-38 to advance to the semifinals. Watkins scored 25 points (10-15 FG, 5-7 3FG) to go along with nine rebounds, two assists and a steal. Jaloni Cambridge had her first breakout performance while logging 15 points (5-7 FG, 2-3 3FG, 3-3 FT), five rebounds and a team-high seven assists. Cambridge led the U.S. in assists in the semifinal and championship as well. The USA came out strong defensively in the semifinals, holding Canada to nine points in the first quarter to take a 27-9 lead. The early lead propelled the team to an 87-57 victory. Randolph (14 points) and Watkins (13 points) led the team in scoring. In the final match, Spain looked like the team to closely compete with the Americans. In the final three minutes of the opening quarter, Spain closed the gap to one possession (15-13) before the U.S. responded with a 9-0 run to end the opening quarter with a 24-13 lead. While the Spaniards fought, the U.S. took home gold with an 84-62 win. Breya Cunningham helped lead the team in the final with her best performance of the week, finishing with 10 points, 10 rebounds (9 OR), a single-game best five steals and one block. The double-double was her second of the week, making her the only player on the team to have multiple through the competition. Cambridge and Watkins received All-Star Five honors following the victory. Watkins also added MVP recognition to her list of honors. France captured the bronze medal with an 84-82 win over Canada.

USA WOMEN’S U17 WORLD CUP TEAM 2018 RESULTS
MINSK, BELARUS • JULY 21-29, 2018
The old adage “defense wins” was proven true by the Americans at the 2018 FIBA U17 World Cup as the USA’s defense shut down all comers to claim the gold medal with a 7-0 record. Jumping out to a 23-10 lead in the first quarter and 43-22 at halftime, the USA downed Italy 86-48. Haley Jones finished with 13 points and Paige Bueckers and Hailey Van Lith scored 12. The USA limited Mali to 22.8% shooting while connecting on 50.6% of its own in a 92-38 rout. Azzi Fudd scored 18 points. Capping preliminary play with a 107-50 shattering of China, the U.S. was led by 18 points from Jordan Horston. The USA was in control throughout in a 98-42 round of 16 win against Colombia. This time it was Aliyah Boston who led the way with 21 points and nine boards as all 12 players scored, including four in double digits. In its 66-31 quarterfinal victory over Spain, the USA relied on its defensive pressure, which limited Spain to just 24.5% shooting, to lead it into the semifinals. Zia Cooke was the USA’s top scorer with 14 points (6-6 FG) and Bueckers hit 6-of-7 and finished with 12 points. The USA again relied on a stifling defense, which held Hungary to 23.7% shooting and produced 38 points off of 22 turnovers, in earning an 84-39 semifinal win. Horston led the way with 18 points, four assists and four steals. In the final contest, France scored first to take its only lead of the game, but the USA responded with 16-straight points. By halftime, the USA lead stood at 46-28. France, which overcame a 15-point halftime deficit to defeat Australia in the semifinals, was put away when the U.S. opened the third quarter with a 13-2 run. The USA outscored France 22-5 in the final stanza for the 92-40 win. The USA shot 51.5% from the field, while France was limited to icy 24.6% shooting. Further, the USA shut down France’s top scorer heading into the game. Iliana Rupert, who averaged 12.2 points entering the gold medal game, was held scoreless on 0-for-10 shooting. Horston earned MVP honors and was joined on the all-tournament team by Boston and Jones. Australia earned the bronze with a 57-51 win over Hungary.

USA WOMEN’S U17 WORLD CUP TEAM 2012 RESULTS
AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS • AUGUST 17-26, 2012
The USA successfully defended its gold medal with eight wins by an average of 35.0 points. Diamond DeShields, who led the USA with 14.8 points per game earned tournament MVP honors, while Linnae Harper (7.9 ppg) listed on the five-member all-tournament team. The USA proved too fast for South Korea in its opening game, busting ahead of a full-court pressure for 72 points in the paint and 40 off the fast break on its way to a 131-89 win. Rebecca Greenwell led the USA with 23 points, seven rebounds and seven assists; and two players recorded double-doubles – Brianna Turner (20 points, 10 rebounds) and Taya Reimer (15 points, 10 boards). Behind 29 points from DeShields and a defensive effort that limited Canada to an 20.8% from the field (15-72 FG), the USA tallied an 86-47 win. Leading 37-30 at the end of the first quarter, the USA got 11 of DeShields’ 20 first half points in the second period to outscore Canada 23-12 and take control of the game. Improving its lead throughout, the USA compiled a convincing 83-43 win over Italy. The balanced attack featured five players in double figures, including 16 points and nine rebounds from Greenwell, who shot 4-of-10 from 3-point. After Belgium fought to within eight points in the third quarter, the USA responded with an 11-4 run to close the period with a 15-point lead and the game’s momentum on its way to an 80-50 win. Greenwell compiled 17 points, while DeShields finished with a 14-point, 11-rebound double-double. Leading from start to finish, the USA wrapped up its preliminary round with a 98-28 blowout against Mali. The 70-point win tied for the largest margin of victory in FIBA U17 World Championship history. After a first half fight, the USA pulled away from Australia in the third quarter to record an 89-68 win and advance to the semifinals. Leading by just four points at halftime, the defense buckled down to force 13 Aussie turnovers in the second half while limited Australia to just 25.0% (10-40 FG) from the field after the midway point. DeShields led the USA with 19 points and four blocks, Mercedes Russell tallied 18 points and a U.S. record-tying 14 rebounds. The USA blocked a U.S. record 16 shots, while it attempted a record 93 field goals. Collecting 55 points off the bench, the USA used its depth and determination to wear down Canada for an 84-59 semifinal win. All 12 players scored for the USA, including 11 points, eight rebounds, seven steals and four assists from Harper. While the USA struggled with its shooting, making just 33.0% (32-97 FG) from the field and 12.5% from 3-point (2-16 3FG), it was helped by a 69-41 rebounding advantage and 31 Canadian turnovers, which converted into 31 points. The USA fought off a resilient Spain 75-62 to capture the gold medal. Spain threatened to take control of the game with runs in the second and third quarters, but each time the USA responded to lead from start to finish in its closest final of the tournament. Lindsay Allen scored 11 points and hit three 3-pointers in the first 4:22 of the fourth quarter to help put the game out of reach. Allen finished with 13 points and six assists. Canada beat Japan 84-77 for the bronze medal.
