USA WOMEN’S U17 WORLD CUP TEAM 2016 RESULTS

The USA overpowered South Korea 104-45 and set four records in its first game. Aquira DeCosta (12 points) set a record with 17 rebounds, and the USA set team marks for rebounds (85) and free throws made (31) and attempted (43). Destanni Henderson, had 10. Charli Collier added 22 points and 12 boards and Olivia Nelson-Ododa had 21 points and 10 boards. Janelle Bailey had 17 points and 10 rebounds. The USA fought off Czech Republic for a 72-63 win. The USA was up by 15 points in the second, but Czech came within three points with 6:56 left. DeCosta and Nelson-Ododa scored to give the USA a 63-56 lead, and after a Henderson 3, the USA led 68-58 at 3:51. Williams had 12 points, Bailey added 10 points and nine boards and DeCosta finished with 16 rebounds. A late 12-0 run helped propel the USA past Italy 59-55. Trailing for more than half the game, the USA had a 41-40 edge after the third. Wil- liams, who had 20 points, ignited a run to start the fourth, and the USA led 53-40 at 6:20. Outscoring Brazil 25-15 in the third, the USA took control in the second half and went on to a 79-62 victory. Bailey and Williams led the USA with 19 points apiece. Bailey added nine rebounds and Williams had 10 rebounds and was 7-of-7 from the free throw line to tie the USA U17 women’s record for free throw percentage. Clinging to a three-point lead with 6:03 left, the USA held France scoreless the rest of the way and rolled on to a 56-45 win in the quarterfi- nals. Williams led the USA with 17 points, six rebounds and three steals; Dodson and Nelson-Ododa each had nine points; and Bailey finished with 10 rebounds. In a semifinal matchup of undefeateds, the USA lost to Australia 73-60. Despite several comeback attempts, the USA never led. Henderson finished with 11 points. Dodson grabbed 13 rebounds to go with seven points and Bailey added 10 points and 11 rebounds. In the bronze medal game, the U.S. held China scoreless for the last 3:34 to earn a 65-50 victory. Ahead by 10 points at half, the lead was 50- 48 with 5:33 left. Taylor Mikesell made a 3 and Dodson converted a three-point play to give the USA a 56-48 edge. The U.S. made four stops while Mikesell hit another 3 and Bailey made free throws to give the USA a 65-50 win. Mikesell had 15 points (5-9 3FG); Dodson added 12 points; Nelson-Ododa finished with nine points and 10 boards; and Bailey had 11 rebounds and six points. DeCosta set a competition record for rebounds (71) and Williams was 15-of-15 from the free throw line to set a free throw percentage record.
