FROM THE INDUSTRY
So even if we get 98% of our energy from renewables, that last 2% that we need to buy because we haven’t got enough in the renewables is what will set the price.
Throw in a complex, crowded industry catering for millions of consumers in a fast moving environment, multiple standards and data sets, a liberal dose of climate change and geopolitical boogeymen around every corner. Pretty much. It’s encouraging there are so many precedents, I can see we will get there eventually. While mistakes get made at government level, decisions are generally made in good faith, with the information available at the time. We have a huge amount of expertise in this industry, and no shortage of talent. No end of well- intentioned industry bodies trying to make things happen [see below – Ed.]
across Europe, we’re working with the same standards. But our implementation is better of them, because we had just one body that was responsible. It is clearly frustrating for you. But fast forward five years, you probably won’t be having this conversation. Yeah, but it needs to happen now. It can’t wait another two years, because then it’s going to take another two years to agree the standards, then governance. Our world’s moving faster than it ever has before. You can’t ignore the tsunami of changes coming, we need to be getting ready for it now. We have arguably one of the best integrated smart metering infrastructures that exists anywhere, because it’s complex and we have the most fragmented market. So, standards, orchestration, communication, accountability. These seem to be the among the most urgent of your messages.
Last thoughts?
We will get there. We just need to hurry up a bit.
