A MESSAGE FROM OUR HEADTEACHER
the remaining Year 7 forms will get their turn! On Wednesday we were delighted to welcome Alison Kervin OBE, the first woman to referee a rugby match at Twickenham, Sarah Brindley, Captain of Thamesian RFC, and Kate Howe from RuptureXIBIT in Hampton Wick to talk to Year 10. This inspirational afternoon explored “Building resilience through art and sport” and was hosted by professional rugby player, Victoria Rush, to coincide with the Rugby World Cup. We will all be cheering on the Red Roses tomorrow! Our Year 13 English Literature students enjoyed a trip to The Bush Theatre to watch the new play, ‘Not Your Superwoman’. The play explores the relationship between a mother and daughter and the themes intersect with the ‘Identity and Belonging’ focus for their coursework. Thank you to all the students and staff for helping the school photographs run smoothly on Wednesday and Thursday. Details on how to order your school photos will be sent home shortly. Over the summer our phone system underwent an overhaul and upgrade. Unfortunately some of the Waldegrave community have reported issues when phoning in to school. We have worked with our provider to ensure that this has been resolved and apologise profusely for any issues you experienced. If you are unsure if your message has been received by the school please contact us. We thank you for your understanding regarding this matter.

HEALTH AND WELLBEING
On the BBC website this week, an article about brain fog had some excellent tips for helping our brains to function effectively that Ms Dhir shared with Year 11 parents during the Information Evening. It includes an acronym that is very much on brand for Waldegrave - SWANS. This stands for Sleep, Water, Activity, Nutrition, and Stress, and is an excellent reminder that we can help our students to learn effectively by encouraging them to get the basics right. Achieving for Children are running a number of new workshops and courses for parents of secondary school students. These include: Left to Their Own Devices, to help families deal with their children and teenagers using phones, tablets and gaming devices online; Talking Teens, a short course to help parents improve their understanding of adolescent development and communication; and Parents in Conflict, a short course for parents who are finding it hard to work together for the sake of their children.

A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 11
Year 11 have been doing really well in their lessons, engaging positively and working well with their teachers This week we had the Year 11 information evening which both parents/guardians and students were welcome to attend. This covered key dates, curriculum information and links to sources of support. All the core subjects also listed useful revision resources which students can also use at home. The powerpoint is available on our website here for you to refer back to. Our assembly this week was led by Ms Lewis who introduced Waldegrave’s new Book Champions Initiative. We now have dedicated student ‘book champions’ in every year group, who will help spread the love of reading throughout the school. These students also took part in the assembly, presenting their favorite books speaking about their love of reading. Hopefully this will inspire more Year 11 students to pick up a book and read! Congratulations to 11PGU for getting the most e-praise points this week. They are closely followed by 11SPI. Don’t forget we have a fantastic photography competition running this term, it would be great to see lots of entries from Year 11. Please see page three of the bulletin for more information and details of how to enter. Students are reminded to bring a reading book in every Wednesday for ‘Reading Wednesdays’. They can borrow one from the library if they don’t have one at home. If students have chromebooks then they should also bring these in every day. We do not have enough here at school to lend to all students, as the Chromebooks here are reserved for students who do not have their own. Students can leave chromebooks in their lockers and then take them home to recharge. Thank you and have a lovely weekend!

BOOK OF THE MONTH
‘King of Nothing’ by Nathanael Lessore
I really really really enjoyed this book! I specifically enjoyed how realistic and actually quite intense it was towards the end. The characters are all written so well. For example I really like how you can tell Anton is not as bad as Kehinde from the start when he kind of defended Mathew when Kehinde was about to give him a hard time. The scene where Mathew and Anton are at a sleepover and they’re talking about his nan made me cry! It was just so wholesome and the boys’ unexpected friendship is such a lovely part of the book. I will definitely suggest this book to people in the future!
