Land Management This week staff conducted multiple gopher tortoise burrow surveys. Surveys are conducted prior to project initiation. Gopher tortoises are designated as a species of special concern in the state of Florida and in the northern portion of their range they are a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act. Staff conducted additional surveys on adjacent conservation easements in the Shell Creek Preserve area. Staff conducted trail maintenance on 5000 linear feet of trail in west county and Sheel Creek Preserve. Staff has been compiling data for our annual Florida Community Trust grant reporting cycle. These reports ensure compliance with the agreements that secured millions of dollars for the acquisition of county parks. Staff mowed nearly 27 miles of trails in multiple parks this week.
