A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 10

This week Year 10 had a fabulous talk from the Arts Council on Building Female Resilience. The talks were from artists and female rugby players. It was hosted by Victoria Rush (No Woman No Cry director). The speakers were Alison Kervin OBE (the first woman to referee a rugby match at Twickenham) and Kate Howe (artist) from RuptureXIBIT in Hampton Wick. Myself and Mrs Dhir were incredibly proud of all of their behaviour and focus - they also were actively engaged in the open Q&A at the end. We are also excited to announce that our Year 10 Ethos was selected by myself and Mrs Dhir. We choose 10FDO’s positive motto “ Your mindset is the key to the padlock”. Well done 10FDO and we hope that Year 10 take this message on board. We have the first Epraise totals and the top forms are:

10EMU 10PWA 10FCO Brilliant work so far - keep it up.

Don’t forget we have a fantastic photography competition running this term, it would be great to see lots of entries from Year 10. Please see page three of the bulletin for more information and details of how to enter. Looking ahead we want to remind students about ‘getting it right’ in terms of uniform and lateness. We are noticing a pattern of lateness in the year group and we would appreciate it if you could speak to your child/ren about the importance of getting into school on time. If your child is late to school then they will be issued with a late detention after school that day for 20 minutes. Thank you for your support on this.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

‘King of Nothing’ by Nathanael Lessore

I really really really enjoyed this book! I specifically enjoyed how realistic and actually quite intense it was towards the end. The characters are all written so well. For example I really like how you can tell Anton is not as bad as Kehinde from the start when he kind of defended Mathew when Kehinde was about to give him a hard time. The scene where Mathew and Anton are at a sleepover and they’re talking about his nan made me cry! It was just so wholesome and the boys’ unexpected friendship is such a lovely part of the book. I will definitely suggest this book to people in the future! - L Tayib-Davis, 8PCO
