Reduced transport costs In August, FMB London responded to Transport for London’s (TfL) consultation on proposed congestion charge changes, which include increasing the charge from £15 to £18 and amending discounts for electric vehicles. As part of its response, FMB London carried out a survey of members to understand how they are coping with transport costs, including ULEZ charges, new tunnel tolls, and parking fees. FMB London shared the survey results with TfL, highlighting the negative impact on housing and retrofit targets, as well as on the capital’s economic growth. FMB North England has launched a new Facebook page and encourages members to follow the Instagram account @fmbnorth. Recent posts feature site visits across the region, including a visit to brothers Olly and Gus Cooper at M J Cooper Builders on the Wirral. “Members are encouraged to follow online and tag the FMB in their posts to help grow the community, alongside using the FMB app,” Frank added. Plans are in place to exhibit at several trade shows this autumn, including the Harrogate Home Building and Renovating Show. Members attending are invited to a free breakfast networking event before the show on Saturday 1 November; booking will open soon. Members should also save the date for a joint area event in Leeds on Thursday 4 December, open to all. Frank also gives thanks for “the warm welcome” she has received as she settles into the role of North Director.
The North West Area Board has elected a new President, Martin Boardman of MWB Residence, and a new National Board Representative, Ian Henderson of Hende Construction. Vice President Aivars Jerjomin of Chester Building and Renovations Ltd was re-elected for a further term. The board was pleased to welcome FMB member Oliver Niblett of Niblett Construction as an observer. This option is available to any members interested in learning more about area board activities. Lynn Gunning of Milestone Ltd also joined the Yorkshire & Trent Board as an observer for its recent online meeting. “FMB members who are not on a board are still encouraged to take part in local activities,” said North Director Carolyn Frank. “There are opportunities to represent the FMB in the media, act as campaign champions, and contribute to special interest groups and projects.”
