Welcoming new Central leadership Kathryn Poppitt of Graline Construction Ltd has been appointed new Central Area President, with Matt Bridge of Colonial Build Ltd taking on the role of Vice President. After two years as Vice President, Kathryn aims to create opportunities for open, honest conversations and practical collaboration, recognising that members achieve more by working together. One of her first priorities is to launch a Women in FMB group, giving women in member businesses a stronger platform to connect and support one another. Matt brings over 40 years of industry experience to his role and serves on the CITB Nations Council for England, providing a direct link between CITB and FMB members. Passionate about skills, training, and competence, he works to help members view CITB engagement as a business advantage and is a strong advocate for promoting FMB companies as best in class.

From site to showroom
This year, Pete and his partner Evelina opened their first showroom in Peterborough, providing customers with a place to see their work in person and understand what they can deliver. The showroom reflects how far the company has come – planned and delivered with the same care and professionalism they bring to every project. “Pete is proud to carry the FMB badge, and the FMB is equally proud to have him as a member,” said Central Director Nicola de Sousa.
Pete Bird established Pete Bird Property Maintenance Ltd six years ago and, like many builders starting out, spent the early years working full-time on site while managing every other aspect of the company. “I started my own business because I wanted to do things properly,” Pete said. “I’d worked for a big firm where it was all about rushing jobs and not really caring about the client. That just didn’t sit right with me.” Over time, Pete began to step back and consider how the business operated, focusing on the client experience.

Women in construction connect
To address this, the FMB is creating a UK-wide network for women to share insights, learn from one another, and gain ideas that can make a difference in their work. Those interested in joining are invited to email Central Director Nicola de Sousa using the details below, adding ‘Women’s Network’ in the subject line.
Women working within FMB member businesses – whether leading the company, managing projects on site or keeping operations running behind the scenes – play a vital role in the construction industry. However, there are currently few opportunities to connect with others who share these experiences.
