C HRIST . . . loved the church, and gave himself for it” (Eph. 5.25). All who are members of His true Church love it too. Every blood-bought, Spirit-taught believer can sing from his heart, “ I love Thy Church, O God.” Do Seventh-Day Adventists love the Church Universal? According to their professions of friendliness, as noted in our preceding installment, the answer should be an emphatic Yes. This third and final installment will show, from their official writings, what Seventh- Day Adventists really think of Christ’s Body, the Church, and of the Church’s Head, the Lord Jesus Christ. Remem ber, the following excerpts from the writings of Mrs. E. G. White are con sidered by Adventists to be “ inspired” and to depict both the state and the standing before God of all local bodies which call themselves Christian church- S E P T E M B E R , 1 9 5 1

es. Consider carefully what the “ prophet” has written: “ . . . The churches have been growing more and more corrupt.” . . . “ If the false covering could be torn off from the members of the churches, there would be revealed such iniquity, vileness, and corruption, that the most diffident child of God [meaning a reserved Seventh- Day Adventist] would have no hesitancy in calling them by their right name, children of their father, the devil; for his works they do.” “ . . . They profess to be Christians [but] their profession, their prayers, and their exhortations are an abomination in the sight of God.” (Mrs. E. G. White: "Early Writ ings of Mrs. White,” pp. 273, 128; “ Testimonies for the Church,” Vol. 1, p. 190.) So here is inside information about how “ your friends, the Adventists” re

gard you if you are of any group other than their own. “With their mouth they show much love, but their heart goeth after covetousness” (Ezek. 33:31). Be ware of that “friendly” Adventist caller who knocks (in both senses)! The Apostle of Love warns, “ Receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed” (2 John 10). Why? Well, according to John, doc trine is the test. John begins this para graph of his second letter with the statement, “ Many deceivers are entered into the world” (2 John 7). Such de ceivers are invariably wrong in their doctrine about the Lord Jesus Christ. Some readers of this article are sure to ask, “ Do not Adventists believe in Christ?” Seventh-Day Adventists, as such, do not believe in the Christ of the Bible; theirs is a fictitious Christ. This charge against them is most serious, Page Seventeen
