A MESSAGE FROM OUR HEADTEACHER
the remaining Year 7 forms will get their turn! On Wednesday we were delighted to welcome Alison Kervin OBE, the first woman to referee a rugby match at Twickenham, Sarah Brindley, Captain of Thamesian RFC, and Kate Howe from RuptureXIBIT in Hampton Wick to talk to Year 10. This inspirational afternoon explored “Building resilience through art and sport” and was hosted by professional rugby player, Victoria Rush, to coincide with the Rugby World Cup. We will all be cheering on the Red Roses tomorrow! Our Year 13 English Literature students enjoyed a trip to The Bush Theatre to watch the new play, ‘Not Your Superwoman’. The play explores the relationship between a mother and daughter and the themes intersect with the ‘Identity and Belonging’ focus for their coursework. Thank you to all the students and staff for helping the school photographs run smoothly on Wednesday and Thursday. Details on how to order your school photos will be sent home shortly. Over the summer our phone system underwent an overhaul and upgrade. Unfortunately some of the Waldegrave community have reported issues when phoning in to school. We have worked with our provider to ensure that this has been resolved and apologise profusely for any issues you experienced. If you are unsure if your message has been received by the school please contact us. We thank you for your understanding regarding this matter.

HEALTH AND WELLBEING
On the BBC website this week, an article about brain fog had some excellent tips for helping our brains to function effectively that Ms Dhir shared with Year 11 parents during the Information Evening. It includes an acronym that is very much on brand for Waldegrave - SWANS. This stands for Sleep, Water, Activity, Nutrition, and Stress, and is an excellent reminder that we can help our students to learn effectively by encouraging them to get the basics right. Achieving for Children are running a number of new workshops and courses for parents of secondary school students. These include: Left to Their Own Devices, to help families deal with their children and teenagers using phones, tablets and gaming devices online; Talking Teens, a short course to help parents improve their understanding of adolescent development and communication; and Parents in Conflict, a short course for parents who are finding it hard to work together for the sake of their children.

A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 8
We are all getting settled back in nicely here and Year 8 are getting stuck into their studies well. This week we had our annual school photographs and all the students behaved really well and looked very smart in their individual and class pictures. Details about ordering will come out shortly. Year 8 are doing very well collecting ePraise points. Our top three individual students are Nethra G in 8EHO in 3rd place, Mia B in 8PFO and Kate C from 8EHO currently topping the leading board. Keep it up!
Don’t forget we have a fantastic photography competition running this term, it would be great to see lots of entries from Year 8. Please see page three of the bulletin for more information and details of how to enter.
Next week the Year 8s are leading the school tours for the students who are currently in Year 6 and are looking to join us at Waldegrave next September. The tours will span several mornings over the next week and the tutor groups will take it in turns to lead the prospective students and their parents around the school, giving them a valuable insight into school life at Waldegrave. We are sure that the students will make us proud and be great ambassadors for the school.
Have a lovely weekend.
MS ROOK, HEAD OF YEAR 8
BOOK OF THE MONTH
‘Arsenic For Tea’ by Robin Stevens A murder-mystery, with two curious girls as the main protagonists – Daisy Wells and Hazel Wong. As chaos unfolds around them, they tend to try and solve them like full-on detectives, but unpaid, of course. This is the second book in the series, so I recommend reading the first book first. But a brief summary is – the two girls are at Daisy’s house (Fallingford) for a tea party Daisy’s mother was throwing and Daisy’s whole family was invited. When mysteriously one of them fall extremely ill and pass away due to poisoning. Who could have done it, and how? It was thrilling to read it, going on the way to the answer with our protagonists. To suspect a character and finding out the truth is like a whole adventure without having to move around. I picked this book from the series specifically because of how suspenseful it was. Almost every character seemed like the culprit, every single one of them acted edgy, so it was even harder to work out. Of course there are other books in the series as well, one as good as the other, so if you enjoyed this one, there are many more.
