POLISHED DIAMOND: On September 2, formidable Japanese junior flyweight Daiya Kira scored a Knockout of the Year contender over former world titleholder Carlos Canizales to claim the WBA title in just his fifth professional fight. Kira, known as “The Shining Diamond,” closed the show with a devastating left hook in the seventh round, which put Canizales flat on his back. The super-brave Venezuelan beat the count but was in no position to continue. Kira is an electrifying talent and debuted in The Ring’s junior flyweight ratings at No. 4.
