A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 7
Last week culminated in the Year 7 and 8 cricket team taking part in the Middlesex schools indoor cricket com- petition. The team managed to get all the way to the semi-finals - it was a thrilling game which came down to to the very last over, we kept the bowling very tight but the batter facing the final ball hit it down the length of the hall to score a six, knocking us out. We finished in a very creditable joint 3rd place in the Middlesex final. Well done to all those involved, especially the Year 7 students; Georgia L, Mel P, Sakeena M and Ava S.
We have had an exciting week, Year 7 learned about the Waldegrave Easter Bonnet parade, began learning the song and thinking about their bonnet designs. Each tutor group has also been nurturing their plant and even naming it as part of the Pot Plant competition. The Maths department celebrated Pi day with Year 7 by giving students an opportunity to express their creativity and on Thursday our Year 7 Basketball Team were named Borough Champions after winning the RSSP Basketball League! Well done everyone on achieving epraise points, here are the leaderboards: Individual leaderboard:1st Mia B 7PFO, 2nd Nethra G 7EEL, 3rd Kate C 7EEL. Good luck to the Year 7 netball teams taking part in the Richmond School’s tournament next Wednesday, we hope you score lots of goals! Finally on Wednesday we will also have our end of term celebration assembly where the academic and pastoral achievements of Year 7 students will be recognised and celebrated. Have a good week! Today students and staff have been wearing red to celebrate Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day (voluntary donations can still be made via ParentPay). We held a House Competition for the Best Joke, with each tutor group sharing their best cheesy joke and Year groups voting on their favourites. We will share the winners next week!
BOOK OF THE MONTH
‘The Girl of Ink & Stars’ by Kiran Millwood This book is a captivating story about a girl called Isabella, a cartographer’s daughter. She lives on an island called Joya. When her best friend Lupe disappears, Isabella is determined to join the search party by using her mapmaking skills and knowledge of the stars which help guide the search. The world beyond the walls is filled with monsters and ancient myths. Isabella must save not only Lupe but the island too. I enjoyed the character, Isabella, since she was resilient - she never gave up - and brave. I also liked how Isabella’s maps and knowledge transformed into something magical. The more you read the more secrets are revealed. If you liked ‘The Last Bear’ by Hannah Gold or ‘The Wolf Wilder’ by Katherine Rundell, since they also feature brave girls in magical settings, then you would enjoy this book.
