1 Look at the pictures and answer. Have students look at the pictures and ask: Where are the children? Have students notice the school supplies and the word School in the first picture. Convey the meaning of the four situations eliciting the activities the girl is doing in each of the pictures. Have students notice the girl is wearing a uniform. Accept all the rules in the classroom or the courtesy expressions students mention and write them on the board. 2 Match the phrases to the pictures in Activity 1. Ask students to look at the pictures. Read out the polite sentences. Ask students to match the pictures with the corresponding phrase, writing a number. Have students check answers in pairs. Student A points to a picture and Student B reads out the corresponding phrase. Invite students to share the answers with the class. Check the answers as a class. Give positive feedback. 3 Listen and complete. Point to the character in the picture and elicit her name. Ask the caharacter’s age. Point to the picture again and ask, What is she doing? Invite volunteers to read the paragraph. Tell students you are going to play a recording. Play the first two lines of Track 4 . Point to each line while students listen to the recording to model how to follow the text. Then play the rest and have students follow the text in their books. Ask them to listen carefully to the information and read along with the text.Tell them that some of the words are missing. Play the track again, pausing after the missing words. Ask questions to check comprehension. For example, How old is Gloria? What rules does she follow? Ask students to write the missing word. Give students time to write the words before continuing with the recording. Play the track a third time for students to check answers. Walk around the classroom listening their answers and assist students who have difficulty. Check their pronunciation and give positive feedback. Check the answers on the board. Wrap Up Elicit rules that students follow at home. Provide vocabulary support as necessary. Write examples of on the board. For example, Sit down to eat; Brush your teeth/hands before you sleep/eat; Make your bed each day; Do your homework. Have students choose a rule to draw and label it. Walk around and monitor students’ work. Provide positive feedback.

Warm Up Divide the class into groups of five. Give each group a long piece of paper. It should be long enough to provide space for each student in the group to draw. Tell students they will draw a picture which title will be Rules in the Classroom. Tell students that at school, the first rule is Raise our hand (hold your hand up). Say, Excuse me , when we want to talk. Model and have students repeat. Write them on the board. Encourage students to name other school rules they know. In case students need help, write them on the board. Make sure your list includes May I go out?, Say Please, Thank you, and Y ou’re welcome, Say Hello and Goodbye . Remind students these are Courtesy Experssions that show respect. Invite students to illustrate the classroom walls with these rules.
