Objective 3: Embrace the Circular Economy
• Deconstruction ∙ Reuse ∙ Recycle • Low waste design
• Sustainable build materials With Kitchen West, we have a clear opportunity to embrace the circular economy. The circular economy is a system where materials never become waste. Instead, products and materials are kept in circulation through processes like maintenance, reuse and recycling. In addition to our deconstruction ambitions of the old site, we are aiming for: 1. Low Waste Adaptable Design • Designing to standard product dimensions where possible. • Maximising end of life value of building components using reusable elements. 2. Sustainable Building Materials • Using re-used and recycled materials in the building where feasible. • Low embodied carbon construction - exceeding Wiltshire Council benchmarks. 3. Minimising Construction Waste in line with Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) standards 4. Minimising Operational Waste • No waste to landfill (including food waste).
• All edible food waste diverted for human consumption. • All non-edible food waste sent to Anaerobic digestion.
