HAZARDS AND RISKS AWARENESS IN HV ENVIRONMENTS
135 min.
The aim of this lesson is to provide participants with an awareness of hazards and risks in HV environments and how to recognise abnormal conditions and respond to mitigate the risks.
After having successfully completed this lesson, the participants can:
25) Explain hazards, risks and controls of working adjacent to or on HV equipment (Knowledge, intermediate level)
26) Take initiative to identify and mitigate risks and hazards associated with working with HV environments and equipment (Ability, intermediate level)
ELEMENT 4.1 - HAZARDS, RISKS AND CONTROLS WHEN WORKING WITH HV EQUIPMENT
To achieve the lesson learning objectives, the participants can:
27) Recognise the distinct hazards and risks of working on or near to HV equipment and systems (Knowledge, basic level)
28) Discuss appropriate control measures for working on or near to HV equipment and systems (Knowledge, intermediate level)
29) Explain arc flash hazards, risks and appropriate protection measures including Arc Flash Risk Assessment (Knowledge, intermediate level)
30) Recognise the varied sources of hazards from HV equipment: electrical, mechanical and pressure stored energies, gasses, chemicals, thermal energy, radiation, inductance (Knowledge, basic level)
The instructor shall:
Lead a discussion to explain and illustrate hazards, risks and controls of working with HV equipment using real world examples:
a. hazards, such as electricity, heat, chemical hazards including gasses
b. risks, such as electrocution, arc eye, burns, asphyxiation, fire, flashover, explosions
c. arc flash hazards and protection, including Arc Flash Risk Assessment
