The aim of this lesson is to familiarise participants with the safe practices for carrying out HV switching operations, and to provide opportunities for them to role play designated duties, while practicing and implementing control in realistic exercise scenarios.

After having successfully completed this lesson, the participants can:

78) Take responsibility to implement safe practices for HV switching activities under a SSOW in various operating conditions (Ability, intermediate level)

79) Perform safe initial energisation, and reenergisation of HV systems following repairs, ensuring confirmation of clearance to reenergise (Skills, intermediate level)

80) Apply effective coordination with remote operation centres to maintain HV system safety (Skills, intermediate level)

81) Perform actions, communications and sequences safely and effectively as per the HV Switching Schedule and under instruction when facing unplanned conditions (Skills, intermediate level)

82) Take responsibility to identify safety-critical intervention points and situations that require notification to relevant authorities of issues (Ability, intermediate level)

ELEMENT 11.1 - SAFE PRACTICES AND PRINCIPLES OF SWITCHING INCLUDING TEAM COMMUNICATIONS AND THE HIERARCHY OF SWITCHING

To achieve the lesson learning objectives, the participants can:

83) Apply safe switching principles, including team communications (Skills, intermediate level)

84) Apply the hierarchy of switching safely and effectively in switching operations under different conditions (Skills, intermediate level)

85) Take responsibility for identifying equipment status and condition, preparing the job site, tools, PPE and control measures for carrying work (Ability, intermediate level)

86) Distinguish different operating conditions for switching, including fault and emergency scenarios (Skills, intermediate level)

87) Apply correct solution according to instructions for different switching situations: routine, non- routine or emergency (Skills, intermediate level)
